Mind of Mine is the debut studio album by English singer and songwriter ZAYN, released on 25 March 2016, following his departure from boyband One Direction. ZAYNrevealed the album's title during an interview on Apple Music's Beats 1 radio in January 2016. The first single, "PILLOWTALK", was released on 29 January 2016 along with a stunning music video. The song peaked at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. It became the 25th song to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 ever and ZAYN is the first British artist to do so. Talking with The Fader, ZAYN stated: "life experiences have been the influences for the album and just stuff that I've been through, especially in the last five years." According to ZAYN's collaborator Malay (James Ryan Ho), part of the recording for the album took place in the woods: “we went camping for a week in the Angeles Forest - set up a generator and a tent so we could track in the woods." During the Beats 1 radio interview, ZAYN said that he had written “46, 47” songs for the album, but he was working to reduce that down to "17 to 18" songs for the album - and confirmed tracks "sHe", "BeFoUr" and "Mind of Mine". Zayn subsequently teased his fans with two promotional singles, "iT's YoU" and "BeFoUr", and released a second single "LIKE I WOULD" on 10 March 2016. The song was performed by ZAYN on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show. This marks his first live appearance as a solo artist. The cover art for Mind of Mine was also revealed and features a throwback picture of ZAYN as a baby, sporting his current tattoos on his arms. The latest teaser to be released before the album launch was a one-minute Complex cover shoot video featuring the title track "Mind of Mine."
