Hayley has really stepped up her game. I've loved all her stuff, but a lot of times songs other than the major singles (major being Girls Like Girls, Cliff's Edge, other MRS) weren't as fun or memorable: b-tracks. This whole album has maybe two songs other than interludes that aren't on heavy rotation for me. And the interludes are great. The atmosphere and flow of it as a coherent album is amazing. The lyrics are simple, poetic, and forward about her orientation. Really not something you see often. She has a dreamy style here that's pop at its core with embellishments that keep a lot of intrigue going. I love it, as a usual indie electronic fan.
Very rarely can I just listen to an entire album with no desire to skip at least one song, yet with Expectations I have to listen to the whole thing every time! I have been waiting for an album from Hayley Kiyoko for so long and after this I know to expect equally, if not greater, things from her in the future.
Amazing, long awaited, debut album that lives up to the hype that preceded its release.
She expresses herself through a very cohesive album. Her theme is very evident from the beginning. It has a mix of the right vocals, beats, and aesthetic.
I’ve been following Hayley’s music for a few years and let’s just say that I have never been disappointed. This is THE biggest year she has ever had and all we can do is to step back and watch her every move that she’s making in the right direction. I admire this musician with all my heart and I wish to continue listening to her music until the very last days of her career. With all sappiness aside, congratulations Hayley on your first album and can’t wait for the many more to come 💜💜💜
