Liberation by Christina Aguilera Album Info

"Liberation" is the eighth studio album by American singer-songwriter Christina Aguilera. It was released on June 15, 2018, through RCA Records. The album features collaborations with Demi Lovato, Keida, Shenseea, Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz. It is Aguilera's first album in six years, following Lotus (2012). She received two nominations for Grammy Awards in 2019 in the categories Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Fall in Line (with Demi Lovato) and Best Rap/Sung Performance for Like I Do (with Goldlink). Following the release of Lotus, Aguilera took a career hiatus to focus on music and her family. Later in April 2014, Aguilera confirmed she was working on new music, whilst pregnant. In 2015, Aguilera also participated on a few episodes of the TV series Nashville, having two new songs. Later, in October 2015, Aguilera announced during an interview for Today Show that she was recording two albums: one in English and one in Spanish (which was slated to be her second after 2000's Mi Reflejo. During the interview, she also elaborated on the album's working process, saying: "I've been loosely working and sort of accumulating ideas for what my next album will be over the last couple of years. I'm excited for my fans to finally be getting something from me — it's been a while!" In 2016, she returned to The Voice season ten, winning the series with her contestant Alisan Porter, making Aguilera the first female coach to win the series at that time. During a promotional interview for the TV show, Aguilera stated about the album: "It will be an album of freedom." On June 16, 2016, Aguilera released the song "Change", dedicated to the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting, while on August 23, 2016, she released "Telepathy" for the TV series The Get Down soundtrack, which topped the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. In February 2018, media reported that Aguilera was collaborating with Demi Lovato who confirmed a collaboration. In March 2018, a low-quality snippet of a song called "Masochist" leaked online, as well as the full-length demo of the song "Fall in Line", which prompted rumours that the tracks were supposed to be on the album. On May 3, 2018, Aguilera released the first promotional single "Accelerate" featuring American singer Ty Dolla $ign and rapper 2 Chainz, as well as its music video, while also confirming the album's title, Liberation, along with its artwork and track listing, the album was made available for pre-order online. Aguilera worked with names such as Pharrell Williams, Kanye West and long-time collaborator Linda Perry during the making of the album, which initially took place in early 2014. Liberation was described as a "hip-hop and R&B inspired" album by Billboard. Aguilera commented: "To me, there's nothing like an amazing hip-hop beat", while also claiming: "At the end of the day, I am a soul singer. When you strip back the words 'pop star' and the many things that I've done, singing soulfully is where my core, my root, and my heart really is. And as you can see, it's what I'm inspired by." Billboard described the third track, "Maria", as "a pulsing, intricately orchestrated piece that includes a Michael Jackson sample and an extended introduction in which Aguilera sings from The Sound of Music." Aguilera commented that the influence behind the title was Julie Andrews' character in the film as well as her middle name, adding: "Within my house, a form of escape for me was opening my bedroom's window and singing out to the world pretending that I was her. It's about getting back to that little girl who just wants to sing for all the right reasons, not necessarily for charting and all the things that this business kind of does to you over the years and shaping how you look at making music..." The introduction to "Fall in Line", the duet with Lovato, is the track "Dreamers", which "features a group of young girls declaring goals like 'I want to be a journalist,' 'I want to be heard,' 'I want to be president.'" "Fall in Line" has been described as a feminist anthem. Aguilera stated that the track was recorded a few years ago and before movements such as Time's Up and the Me Too movement came out. She added: "It was the song that needed to be heard. Because of what I witnessed when I was growing up I always felt really driven to have a voice that my mom kind of never had in my childhood. So I've always wanted to be that advocate for women and anybody that was struggling to have their own voice." She also explained that the song "Sick of Sittin'" "was born out of feeling stagnant in one place for too long, feeling a little asleep at the wheel. Anytime that you get just too comfortable in a place where you just feel that you're not living up to your full potential it's time to flip the script and move." On the May 2018 cover of Paper magazine, Aguilera appeared bare-faced without makeup and retouching, saying "I'm at the place, even musically, where it's a liberating feeling to be able to strip it all back and appreciate who you are and your raw beauty." (Stripped inspiration). The similar photography style was chosen for the Liberation artwork—posing with a natural look, Aguilera is seen in closeup. The cover of the standard edition was revealed on Aguilera's website on May 3, 2018.

juju22688 - Die hard fan

While I’m a die hard fan since I was like 9 and now in my 30s, I don’t own Lotus. It was terrible. Sorry girl. So glad this album is better! I was waiting for you to find yourself again! Some of these songs make me forget lotus existed. Get. It. Girl.

Kaiyakaye - Ehhh

I appreciate her not screaming the entire time and over doing her runs like in Lotus and appreciate her softer approach but still not feeling any of these tracks

Shdnwbdkfiajhdkfd - Solid Comeback

In comparison to Lotus, this is a masterpiece. But in comparison to all of her previous works, it’s decent but not up to the artistic bar that she set for herself with Stripped and Back to Basics. I love how she has songs that show both a softer side and purity of voice as well as songs that showcase the power her voice carries. A few songs, like Accelerate, dampen this feeling however. And in Fall in Line I feel like she used Demi for the name, because you can barely hear Demi at all. Christina sings over her, which isn’t good in a collaboration. Still a good comeback after 5 years off and the disappointment that was Lotus. Deserves much more recognition then it got, but she’s been out of the loop for a while and music is merciless, if you’re out for a few seconds too long you’re basically forgotten.

🌱🎋🌾🌼🎃🌰 - FLOP

Flop

JMireles87 - Worth the wait

Wow the Voice of our Generation is back & better then ever! This album is great. Her vocal abilities are just amazing! LEGENDTINA!!

Jcnyccc - Pure Artistry

There is so much heart behind every song. I love the richness of Christina’s voice. Best album of 2018!

fixyourhashtags - No

I’m sorry just because you like someone doesn’t mean she’s automatically great! This album is far from what she’s capable of! Her voice is amazing yes but she needs to find direction and better producers and writers! It’s not good at all!

dpichardo658 - I’m Crying!!!!

Give this album a shot. You won’t regret it. The first review for the First Lady of Music. I love this song. Can’t wait to hear the album. x6. Xtina forever. I just listened to the album and I am in awe. I have been a die hard fan since she released her spanish album. She just blows me away. She has managed to grow as an artist and her ability to produce and write is crazy right now. Maybe she needed a break to reflect and then slay. This is her best record ever. It’s the most polished and cohesive album next to back to basics. Nominee for best pop vocal album. Hands down! Maria, Deserve, Fall in Line, Pipe, Unless it’s with You and Accelerate are my faves.

Dr. Monica Rico - Love it!

Love it, fantastic as always!

Jayboy3500788 - Waited this long..

And this album is garbage.

Blaze333 - Unforgivable...

I’m extremely disappointed. I’ve been following Xtina since the beginning, but this album is trashy, it’s unforgivable. Almost nothing worth listening to more than once (if that). Some of it was actually cringe worthy. To end of a positive note, Christina has one of the best voices in the business! It’s just sad that she does not use it to her advantage.

CapnRoger - XTINA STRIKES AGAIN

amazing album from an amazing singer! so hyped to hear her stunning voice LIVE on tour!

Greatperfextion - Worth the wait!

You can tell she really thought about this album - very well put together! Been listening to it for days!!

ChuchoHernandez - My Queen 😍❤️

#Maria #Deserve #Twice #Masochist #UnlessItsWithYou 🖤

Turabo19 - Amazing!

Xtina at her best! Definitely good start to end. This is not another generic pop album. This is music! Love it!

cliff19 - Welcome Back Xtina!

It’s been six years waiting for another album from Xtina & the wait was worth it. She sounds better than ever & ready to teach the gen how to sing! 💎💎💎💎💎

idkwhateveryouwant7891 - Breathtaking album!

After a six-year break, Xtina returns to form. What a magnificent album, hands down the best of the year thus far. I’ll go as far as calling it Grammy-worthy. Aguilera never disappoints, and this album shows that she’s a real and raw talent that’s meant to be treasured. I’m beyond exciting for her next release at this rate!

Bunky1228 - Love the album

Im so happy I purchased the album. I dont think she’s trying to hard on this album. Every song is unique and different. Her voice sounds different on each song. The collaborations with the other artists were great as well. I dont believe she collaborated with those just because they are "popular". I was unfamiliar with a couple of the artists she collaborated with on the album and im happy she did because now im familiar with their music. I love that her songs always have a meaning behind them.

ijuliocamarena - 👏🏽

Perfect.

LivingOut16 - Love it!

She nailed every song. I love this album. Empowering🌅🎆

MoEsQuEeK7 - Who Owns the Throne? MARIAAAA!

Once again, even after 6 years of waiting, Xtina has delivered! As a day one fan of X, to watch her grow as an artist has been a great experience. I love every album she has dropped, but this is her best work yet. The vulnerability, the confidence, the rawness, and honesty. It’s all empowering, and inspiring to anyone who may feel a little lost in life at times. To learn to center yourself and accept who you are, regardless of your flaws. This album is a beautiful masterpiece. An amazing representation of just how far she has come! So proud of her! This album has been on repeat since it dropped, and will continue to be! Can’t wait to see it all on tour! October 26th can’t get here fast enough!💗

floptart1994 - Flop

For making her fans wait so long you think she’d put something worth listening to out?, like Mariah she’s a has been.

ACX901 - Too meh too late

Vocals are seemingly good and triumphant. But given the press surrounding the album and her herself, it’s too meh too late. 6 years and this was it. A woman desperately clinging to her glory days, rather than trying to grow.

jzevy13 - Surprisingly really really good!

I was shocked how this album was in its entirety! I love the belting ballad Fall in Line, the part about the dreamers and leadership is awesome, Accelerate is a hit or miss but I like the feel of it, and there are just so many songs that give me some lounge and tropical vibes that I was really surprised by! You can tell a lot went into this album after Lotus.

Matthew O'Hare - The Voice of a Generation

Once again, Christina Aguilera has been able to prove loud and clear that she’s earned the title “voice of a generation.” I’ll admit that I was skeptical going into this record. A six year gap between albums and “Accelerate” just wasn’t my thing on my first listen. (I love it now.) I’m so happy I was wrong. This album is absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. “Maria,” “Deserve,” and “Pipe” really stand out...and, of course, the gorgeous duet between her and Demi Lovato, “Fall In Line.” This record truly is like a grown up version of “Stripped” and I can’t say enough positive things about it. Xtina is back at last and hopefully she’s here to stay!

Mmhmm26 - Antonio 💜

I commend Christina's ballsiness, her vocals, her writing and the writing of her collaborators. The production is great, the songs have meaning, and I can truly sense the Liberation. Great comeback Xtina. This is why we love you!

MasenMiami - Mediocre at best

Its a mess. Always insisting on over singing when she doesn't need to. Way too many runs and just bad songs. Tragic attempt to collaborate with relevant artists to try to get top 40 hit pathetic. It will bomb i promise you. Hit the small venues and try to earn some coins singing your old hits.

mddofficial - This was the album I never knew I needed 💕

I can’t stop listening to it! I’ve had it on repeat. I wasn’t expecting how raw and personal this album would be and I’m in love with all of it. I loved Bionic, although it commercially flopped, I feel like this has been her best album since Back to Basics. I love the chill-eclectic tones. Absolutely stunning. Yaaaassss, Queen. ❤️

jwxtol - Used to be a fan.

Super disappointed.

TOMTOMTHEGREAT - Surprised & Delighted & Inspiring!

I am a die hard lifer CHRISINA FAN! She is from Pittsburgh, and I am the same age. I also had similar experiences like her except for tomorrow I am having my fathers funeral on the Southside of Pittsburgh. I downloaded the album Friday, as we were getting ready to take him off of life support. I didn’t get to listen to it until yesterday because of my circumstances. BUT when I tell you that this album delivered inspiration, comfort and love, it went above that! Thank you Christina. I hope to see you in DC in September after my birthday. I’m sure I’ll never meet you, but I always believed in you and to see you come back this strong, I am seriously touched. Congratulations! You deserve this. Love, Tom Tomasic -Pittsburgh Pa

AprilEnette - My Girl is back! 👍🏽👍🏽

This latest project is HOT! Welcome back Chris! You go Girl! 💯

Rodfort - Best album ever! 🙌🏻🙅🏼‍♂️

All the songs are amazing, but for me my top 5 is: 1. Unless it’s with you 2. Masochist 3. Maria 4. Deserve 5. Pipe Thank u so much Xtina for this Masterpiece ❤️

ZarektheZman - LIBERATION IS AN AWESOME RECORDING!

The queen has returned and given us some great music to sing and dance to! Come on people let's buy her music. Lets support her and send her to the top of the charts. Can't wait to see her in Vegas!

JC923 - Don’t mean to be harsh, but...

I really wanted to like this, but I just can’t. The whole album just seems confused and all over the place from production to sound to genre. It has bad flow and is not very pleasantly melodic throughout. The majority of the 5 star ratings seem to be from super fans before the album was released because the first couple singles were not good. “Deserve” is literally the only song I’ve found worth while and deserved more than a once over. Not sure why Christina lost her way on the last couple releases, but I’m disappointed again because I actually do like her music.

luckylou22 - She don’t need it anymore

Ok I’m going to keep this short and sweet. I had high expectations for this album but....... yeah anyway, this is a different kinda Christina album, she is getting more in tune with her spiritual side and seems to have found God in a way. She obviously doesn’t need the fame and is not looking for commercial success anymore. Well she has been in the business for 19 years but most artist take this stance when there fans leave them but she doesn’t care. Well I can’t listen to this album from start to finish all the time because there are a lot of serious themes so you can’t just put it on and expect to feel good but you will be left with more wisdom and being more self aware in the world we live in today. Future singles should be “Unless its with you” I think it would do good on pop and top 40 radio. “Like I do” has a nice beat and chorus and thats probably about it as far as singles. I also really like “ Pipe” but the song doesn’t really fit the seriousness of this album.

RedPhoenix85 - Shocked

Honestly I'm shocked at this album. It isn't all bad but it isn't that good either. I'm glad to hear her not over singing every song but it just seems like she wanted to get on the trap beat trend and although the title is liberation only about three songs touch on that theme. I absolutely hate that accelerate song, it is just too all over the place. The description said she had full creative control and I just can't believe that because when she had full creative control she gave us the Unstripped album and it was amazing and rich. It doesn't seem like Christina put any type of thought into this.

Paulywog_421 - Yassssss!!

The whole album has been on repeat since its inception!!

RamonaOfEssex - Liberation

Liberation - 10/10 Searching For Maria - 10/10 Maria - 8/10 Sick of Sittin’ - 2/10 Dreamers - cute lil spoken word part Fall In Line - 9/10 Right Moves - 10/10 Like I Do - 10/10 Deserve - 10/10 Twice - 10/10 I Don’t Need It Anymore (Interlude) - 8/10 Accelerate - 10/10 Pipe - 10/10 Masochist - 8/10 Unless It’s With You - 10/10 The album is spontaneous and breathtaking and the only song i really don’t like is Sick of Sittin. It’s such a calming album i hope she makes a music video for Like I Do, Deserve, or Pipe.

walzzer - Not so good . Could be great .

Get better writers . Masochist should have been 1st single . Cut the interludes . Re release W/OUT sick of sitting .

joshalmanza_ - LIBERATING MASERPIECE

Always going against the grain, Xtina has once again tapped into her own soul for inspiration for this album. The lyrics, melodies, production, it all depicts the fight of staying true to yourself (Maria) in any situation whether it be a relationship (Deserve, Unless It’s With You, Masochist) or work (Sick of Sittin), along with gems like Pipe, Right Moves, Accelerate, Liberation has shaped to be a masterpiece! Thank You Xtina for this!!!
