Crave by Kiesza Album Info
Crave is the second studio album by Canadian singer Kiesza. It was released independently on August 14, 2020 through Zebra Spirit Tribe. It serves as the follow-up to her debut album Sound of a Woman (2014), marking her first album in 6 years. Guest vocals by Cocanina, LICK DROP & Shan Vincent de Paul are featured. To achieve her desired dance-pop and synthpop sorority, Kiesza worked with producers Bobby Love, Chris Malinchak, Electric, Emery Taylor, Louis Biancaniello, Michael Biancaniello & Peter Wade. Kiesza was involved in a car accident in 2017 in Toronto, when an Uber vehicle she was in was struck by a taxi in a side collision. She reported that part of her recovery, from what she described as a "traumatic brain injury", required her staying in a darkened room for six months. After a 2-year hiatus that followed the accident, Kiesza returned to touring in 2019 and released a string of standalone singles before the album's proper lead single, "When Boys Cry", on January 10, 2020. Three more songs were released as singles preceding the album; "All of the Feelings", "Crave" and "Love Me with Your Lie". Speaking to Vents Magazine about the album, Kiesza stated: "This album is intended to lift you up. It’s there to give you a second wind and boost your spirit. I wanted it to be positive, for you and for me, as I know a lot of us need that right now. I’ve been on that same rollercoaster that you almost certainly have for the past five years. It’s best to think of this album as that beautiful sunlit tip of the iceberg, while I slowly begin to take you beneath the surface." Crave received mostly positive reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream publications, the album received an average score of 77, based on 4 reviews. AllMusic referred to the album as "a triumphant return for longtime fans and a winning introduction for newcomers". On July 30, 2021 a deluxe edition was released featuring two bonus tracks; "Dying for You" and "When the Stars Don't Shine".
