Apolonio by Omar Apollo Album Info
Apolonio is Omar Apollo’s debut album, named after his middle name, Apolonio, inherited from his grandfather Apolonio. The album explores several themes of yearning for the past, losing and finding love, the determination to find one’s true self, and dealing with heartbreak—not shying away from expressing vulnerability—a continuous theme in Omar’s discography. Several songs on the album indulge in the theme of self-love and staying true to one’s character. Omar has always been vocal about authenticity and the value of accepting one’s self, which he discussed in his 2020 interview with LA Times: It feels good to know that people find comfort in me expressing myself. If I want to wear a skirt, I wear a skirt. If I want to put on glitter, I’mma wear glitter, you know? I can’t make people like my music, or like me as a person. I put it out in the world, and you do what you want with it. Omar experiments with new sounds, ranging from slow melodramatic R&B to a more upbeat and groovy style. He sings a Corrido-styled song to illustrate the differences between his poor upbringing and newfound success and fame on this project. On August 4, 2020, he first announced the album on his Instagram. Four singles were released in Apolonio which are ”Stayback”, “Kamikaze”, “Dos Uno Nueve (219)", and “Want U Around”.
