RF - Instant Classic

I just don't get some of the reviews below, maybe they don't understand how music works, but to dismiss this because it is not the same as the original or can't "live up" to the original is just silly. Music always borrows, copies, covers, etc. In the process you can have uninspired garbage, but often you can have a totally new and wonderful experience in it's own right. This is a great piece of music, and a wonderful compliment to Dark Side. Anyone who thinks this is just about selling records is missing the point.

snowstar33 - This album gives me chills in a good way!!!

This album is awesome... reggae and pinkfloyd... what more could you ask for? I started listening and instantly felt all these positive vibes. Any music that does that to a person was the reason music was invented. So in a nutshell.. I DIG THIS ALBUM!!!

TXinD76121 - Nice to reacquaint

I've long since gotten sick of the original, which I've been hearing for 30+ years. I know it so well I don't need my ears to hear it. It's all there in my brain. I now only listen to any of it when it happens to come on the car radio (and only then if I'm in the right mood). This album of clever and pleasant covers is a nice way to renew the music and make it tolerable by adding a little freshness into the "mix." I could wish for the dub to be a little more radical, but hey, if they were radical they wouldn't be covering these chestnuts. While I won't listen to this often, I enjoyed it.

Led Zeppagain - NO WAY

Are you seious the is one of the best of Pink Floyds albums and they screw it up!!! WTF

RootsRelic - Dub Side, Indeed.

A masterful interpretation of a classic album. It's a dub album. If you don't like dub, don't bother. But, if you do like dub, you're in for something sweet. They've made the music their own. No easy task...

Michael A Fortini - Love It

This is an AMAZING album. If you're a reggae fan this is definately for you. I love Pink Floyd and reggae, and the Easy Star All-Stars did a great job covering the legendary Dark Side Of The Moon.

browndog911 - Pull Your Heads Out!

No Freakin' kidding its not Pink Floyd! Pink Floyd's album was marvelous, in fact it remained on the charts for over 20 years! But now lets take a step away from what's well known and safe and let us venture into a realm that some people might be frightened and confused by. Its called artistic expression, and the reggae artist on this album are true geniuses! You cant compare this to the original. This album plays with its own vibe and shares its own unique view of the dark side of the moon. In fact "there really is no dark side of the moon, as matter of fact, its all dark." So this is why many people might see it in there own way! If you like REAL reggae give this one a listen!

jake0rson - Jake0rson's review

This album is awesome. I suggest buying it if you like Pink Floyd or Reggae and especailly if you like both

MetaliFloyd - What a disgrace...

Is this album supposed to be some kind of joke that Im just not getting? I mean, if I want to hear Money or The Great Gig In the Sky, Ill go listen to the REAL thing. Why would I want to hear a worse version of whats easily one of the most famous and well made albums to date?I mean, if your'e into cheap copies of great albums made just to sell some albums, definately get this. But if you want to hear the REAL thing, stick with the origional..

luciensarti - Misunderstanding this album's intent...

Reading the reviews written people seem to think these reggea artist were trying to "cover" Floyd's classic...not the case..these artists are sucesses in thier own write and came together (as Floyd fans themselves) and wanted to pay homage to the classic by not changing the music but (dubbing) it for a different view of such an inspiration to so many, and also many of these artist know the Floyd expierience better than we americans..they lived between the islands and England, this album paid homage to Floyes..in a different voice...nice

nostradomous - good

if you really believe that this album was created to sell records you must be crazy. if you were going to try to cover pink floyd to make money you deffinetley wouldnt do it in this style. this cd is not about that, it is about creating another outlet to enjoy pink floyd, reggae, and music. obviously you are also mistaken if you are going to complain about this being the oposite of what pink floyd was about, i.e. nonconformity. in no way does this album conform to any expected or desired style. in fact this album is very surprising (using a trumpet to solo on any colour you like...genius). to dismiss it as an attempt to commercialize and make money is crazy, dark side of the moon can easily be considered the most popular and conforming album the produced. i would understand the complaint if they had tried to dub out meddle or animals, but how can you complain about transforming the most commercial cd they have into a less commercial style.

Bootstraps Bill - Nothing Beats an Original

enough said.

C.L.Jacked - Same Taste Different Flavor

As both an old school Pink Floyd & Regee fan, I think this a creative unexpected marriage. It not really worth comparing (but of course inevetable) like the uselessness of comparing NYC & LA. I like one more than the other, but so what, I still like them both. Obviously one's original and the other an off shot of that. I dig it...

BruthaD - Simply Amazing

Best cover of Pink Floyd i have ever heard. First this then Ok computer i wonder what they will do next?

LookattheMusic - Look at the music

As said in a prior review, you need to look at this album not as a cover but as a new piece of music. The artist here adapted dark side of the moon because they love and respect that album so much. One review said "if you want to here the REAL thing download pink floyd" well duh thats self explanitory. I feel that this cd was not trying to out due the original but in fact compliment it and apply the same great music to a new style. whether youre a fan of floyd or reggae, definetly worth checking out.

baripres - Niceeee

It is sex 2 my ears! Nice intertwinement if reggae and classic rock

Cybernetik Data - It has its own feel.

Basically this is floyd in a different fashion. Nothing that bad, but nothing that is really too great.

P-Town Blazzer - A great rendition of the most over-rated album ever

The Easy Star All-Stars really have proven themselves with this album. Taking a famous album and making it theres. Nothing is better to dance to, and it can bring those "pure" rock prudes into the world of Dub. Great album

Deniseofcourse - Reggae version of Pink Floyd!

If your list of favorite bands includes Bob Marley and Pink Floyd, you owe it to yourself to check out this album. Floyd is one of my favorites and I have always loved Reggae, so I was so excited when I found this Reggae tribute to Dark Side of the Moon, (which is one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums.) Check out the awesome versions of "On the Run" (track 2), "Money" (track 5), also "Time Version" (track 10) & "Great Dub in the Sky" which are alternate 'acoustic' versions of "Time" & "Great Gig in the Sky". Also, the run including tracks 6-9 is jammin!

Stoutwilly - raggae/floyd

Raggae and Floyd may have been made for each other. I never would have thought that they would have blended so well. Much better than the Wizard of Oz!! I hope they covered more Pink Floyd albums.

nymusicbizwhiz - Phenomenal Interpretation

As a long time fan of Floyd, I cringe at every half baked attempt to cover their tunes. Usually this happens in any average bar and usually involves "Wish You Were Here". In the case of Dub Side, the artists have achieved a phenomenal interpretation of one of the most revered albums in the history of recorded music. Much like the original, the songs flow together beautifully, but have been adapted seemlessly to fit the rhythms of reggae. From the incomparable vocal solo on "Great Gig" to the funked out "Any Colour", this album is a treat. A must listen for any Floyd fan.

cowabuga - The ultimate chill dub

this is deffinately the best, and one of the only tribute cd's i have ever considered listening to, or buying for that matter. Now i love it, it has had a home in my cd player for over 3 months now, that's a record.

InterStink - Reggae has never sounded so sweet!

Pink Floyd and Reggae what more can I say. Pass around again

VTBurton15 - Great/fun version

This cover of Dark Side of the Moon is one of more "originals" you will ever hear, yet it is careful to preserve everything that made DSOTM on of the greatest albums of all time. Plus, you can never go wrong with reggae!

Mel Rox - Wizard of Oz Compatability.........

Comparisons, questions, validity, blah, blah, blah - I say - it's a freaking gas! - made our day listening to this the first time! It is what it is - fun and nicely done! I don't even light up & I'm feelin comfortably numb when I listen to this. The big question though is...... is it in sync with the ole Wiz of Oz?????? Maybe I do need a light - cough cough. (you'll get the cough reference when you listen to the damn thing!) Just do it & chillax

bg - awesome

this is amazing

Killinger - My thoughts:

They made it, and it was GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD

mkob74 - Brilliant

After reading the lower rated reviews of this album I was a little skeptical, but to me this album was phenominal. Although I can see why some people wouldn't like it, I think its amazing. If you like this album get Fire On The Mountain: A Tribute To Grateful Dead, another great tribute to a fantastic artist in great reggae style. The style is pretty cool, I think they did a good job staying kinda close to the original version, but making it unique at the same time, so that all of the songs are easliy recognizable, but different.

DidgeriJay - All right then :-)

Disgraceful. An affront to all that is good. A blatant attack on Pink Floyd lovers everywhere. I like it. Hey, not everybody digs it, and that's cool. But it's just music. Reasonably well done, I might add. Personally; I like the Floyd. Never been a big dub fan, but this works for me. Great fun at parties.

Aric - Buy Both

Any fan of reggae can love this album. It takes the genius, psychedelic lyrics of Pink Floyd, and makes beautiful harmony with the reggae aspect. Take the incredible songs that Pink Floyd made (such as Time, Money, and Us and Them) but with a new flavor. A new way of interpreting the classic songs. Then adding a few new dub verisons of the songs in the album, finishes off the album, and leaves a sweet aftertaste. Love Reggae? Love Pink Floyd? Love Music? Buy this album.

hedtec - Dope Side Of The Moon...

Being a fan of the Floyd since youth has given me an inumeral amount of listens to one of the greatest records ever written. Every time i hear it i notice something new or different or the song becomes interpreted differently by the mood or environment i'm in. When i first heard Dub Side it split my wig. I really love this unique interpretation of a classic masterpiece. It's like listening to Dark Side for the first time again in an alternate universe. It is nice to relax with as background music OR to get inside of it and trip out on the details. It's produced very well and i like how they kept the whole album seemless. I would reccomend a listen for any open minded listener.

MackM - This is awesome!

I just bought this cd and I am in love with it already. Being a pretty big Pink Floyd and reggae fan, this combination is brilliant. I personally think Breathe and Time sound the best out of all the songs. Money is very hard to translate to Reggae because of the 7/8 time signature which does not fit well with reggae, but they worked it out. My only complaints are the guy who sings on Brain Damage does not sound Jamaican at all, he has a very annoying accent that does not fit with the style of music, and that Eclipse is very anti-climatic. On Pink Floyd's "Darkside" Eclipse is the perfect ending to the album, but in this version there is no build up on Eclipse, it just sounds like another song.

RiehmTheMachine - Worth a listen

In order to appreciate Dub Side of the Moon you cannot compare it to the Pink Floyd album Dark Side of the Moon. You have to look at it as its own musical piece, not a cover. If you don't then you will be disappointed, as is true with any cover. If you are a Pink Floyd fan or just love the mellow sounds of reggae then I recommend you give Dub Side of the Moon a try.

Capt Chem - You people...

I don't get you people sometimes. Rate this album based on the instrumentation, on the beautiful singing in their interpretation of The Great Gig In the Sky; do not rate it poorly because it isn't Pink Floyd. We already know this when we click on the album; it isn't by Pink Floyd, please don't make it fail by virtue of that fact.

Nikolai h - Amazing

Amazing album, everyone who likes pink floyd should buy it.

Aatakid - Dub side of the awesome album

This album is seriously awesome. I have total respect for these artists ( easy star all-stars ). im sure its not an easy task to remake pink floyd's "dark side of the moon". However their portrayal of this classic album made this album all the more timeless. check it out!!!!!

oldyellowdog - Amazing!

This album really does Pink Floyd justice. It puts a wonderful twist on a classic album. This is great music for hangin out and chilling by the pool. (puff...puff...give)

amsworld - Original and inspiring reggae cover of a rock classic

As a die-hard Pink Floyd fan I was very excited to see a REGGAE version of Dark Side. It was 4:20 and after setting the mood, as any good Floyd fan should, I hit play. As the heart beat crescendos I felt the rush of positive energy coming out of the once sullen rhythm. There is now a sexy rhythmic beating more emulative of the bright side of the moon. I brought the CD with me to Burningman 2004. As the music emanated out across the playa, one-by-one the sheep flocked to ask where I got this amazing album. As a complete work “Dub Side” is an amazing and original homage to the classic.

tim! - horrible.

why? i dont get it. Dark side is not something to cover, in reggae no less. Money starts with ripping a bong and a lighter. its horrible. worst thing i've heard in a long time.

ashten T - CID

If you like pink floyd then go with this album, but remeber to take so hits to get high up on the moon, "man" Remeber to spark the Joint and pass the Bong

Rollerchick - Dub Syde of the Moon

This music is a great interpretation of Pink Floyd's original. Very fun!

Minute Muse - Up Side of the Moon

An inspiring combination of memorable vintage and top-notch reggae. These songs were tarnished for me in my art college dorm, when my meth-addicted neighbor looped the originals, nightly. Great to hear them re-invented with some upbeat dub. This happier take on the classics make me want to take it to the pool.
