The Slip Album Download

The Slip by Nine Inch Nails Album Info

The Slip (also known as Halo 27) is the eighth studio album from Nine Inch Nails. It was released as a free download on May 5, 2008, a CD/DVD package on July 22, 2008 and a vinyl on August 4th, 2008. The album is available for download in a variety of formats, including MP3, lossless FLAC and high-quality WAV files. When playing the MP3 files in an MP3 player a different piece of artwork is displayed for each song, as was the case with Ghosts I–IV. While Trent Reznor is known for laboring over his music for years at a time, The Slip was written in a month and recorded in just three weeks, with mixing, mastering, and art taking one additional week. The album was originally intended to be an EP, but quickly grew to album length. Prior to the album's release, a message was posted on nin.com, simply stating "2 weeks!". The previous time the same message had been posted on the site had been to forbear the release of Ghosts I-IV. Two tracks, "Discipline" and "Echoplex", were also released through radio and the internet respectively, both containing the message "go to www.nin.com May 5" in their ID3 tags. On May 5th, nin.com was updated with the title Halo 27 and a link to theslip.nin.com with the message: "(thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one’s on me)" The album site requires a password to be submitted where the link to the download page can be sent to. The site itself states: "as a thank you to our fans for your continued support, we are giving away the new nine inch nails album one hundred percent free, exclusively via nin.com. we encourage you to remix it, share it with your friends, post it on your blog, play it on your podcast, give it to strangers, etc." According to a Rolling Stone article, the album was finished May 4th and sent to Sudjam, the company that manages nin.com, at 9:30 p.m. for a midnight release. In a nin.com update on June 26th, 2008, it was reported that since the album's release on May 5th, 2008, over 1,400,000 people had downloaded The Slip from theslip.nin.com. That number represents individual people, and excludes multiple downloads from the same order. Like Ghosts I–IV, the release of The Slip came as a surprise to most fans, who were expecting the next release to be a continuation of Year Zero. Reznor has indicated in interviews since the release that a Year Zero sequel was still in the works. Aside from Art Is Resistance logo in the artwork for "Letting You", there are no clear, direct references to characters or events in Year Zero. Some tracks share similar themes, such as abuse of power ("Letting You"), an avatar of destruction ("Demon Seed"), submission to authority ("Head Down"), imprisonment ("Echoplex") and the appearance of entities in the sky ("Lights In The Sky"). Other songs, however, like "1,000,000" and "Discipline", seem completely unrelated and feature more "traditional" NIN themes of personal turmoil. It remains unclear which portions, if any, of The Slip should be considered canon in the Year Zero storyline.

reandy - NIN

AWESOMEEE, i bought this cd, and yeah

H.. P.. - FREE was To Much

Seriously this is a TERRIBLE Album. Year Zero was BAD but this is Pathetic!!! Not even an ounce of originality left is this stale excuse for an artist.

john.borden.ward - Great album at first, gets even better with time

This is a great album. Some people say it lacks depth, but in my opinion not every album needs to be a sprawling opus like The Fragile or The Downward Spiral. Those albums are masterpieces, but this album supplies me with songs for my rock playlists, which is critical. The last half doesn't get as much playing time, but the more I listen to it, the more I get sucked in by the melancholy keyboards and tense buildups. Get this for free on the NIN website, then buy some other albums. If you like this one, I would recommend the Broken EP. It's more rock than industrial and more up-front that sprawling. Sometimes Trent, as well as his audience, just needs to rock out a little, and that's what this album is.

Non-Entity - Feels a little rushed

This is a neat record but it feels a little rushed. As if Trent made this all in a 48-hour period rather than take five to six years like he used to. It's pretty cool that he gave this album away for free on his website. Anyway, some nice songs are "Letting You", "Discipline", "Head Down", and "The Four Of Us Are Dying".

Serrated Keys for Itunes - My first NIN album

There seems to be a lot of people comparing this too NIN's older albums and it seems to be a common consensus that this album is not as good. This is my first NIN album and without any bias from there older stuff I'd give it a five star. I think this album is very well crafted and definitley worth getting. Maybe this isn't quite as good as there other stuff. Maybe not I wouldn't know but I do know this is good music.

nicksmi7h - not bad

most of the time bands get worse when they switch label types they don't sound too good this is one exception I love this album 1,000,000, echoplex, discipline, letting you and demon seed are the best songs

Totter - I lol big time at anyone who buys it here.

free on nin . com. great album. not all reall industrial, but a great NIN album

musiclvr58 - Great music

Is different from all the previous albums.

Respawned Demon - I'm So Confused

Nine Inch Nails is one of the few bands these days in the music business for strictly the music, not the money. Thinking about this I have to question their motives. I mean, part of being a musician is the money, right? Sure the music is the most important thing, but it seems as though NIN is missing out by making their music free. Also, what's the deal with not having a record label? Some bands would kill for a label, but NIN doesn't want one? Labels can help out bands in many ways, yet NIN are relying on their own fame to make themselves successful. I have to give the band major props, but at the same time I feel as though I should be scolding them. Oh well, I'm just going to go enjoy the music now...

Rawrzors - Awsome, but just don't get it here

It's a great album, but why downloaded it on itunes? It's free on their website

Bucky64 - Nice, I wish I waited

I'm a huge NIN fan, and I like all they're albums, With Teeth being my least favorite, but none-the-less, great album. I downloaded this album from their website. The CD version would have been better most likely. 999,999 is okay. Nothing special. 1,000,000 is something to really consider as a single. Letting You has great guitar. Discipline has got to be one of the top three songs on this album. I learned how to play Echoplex on the guitar so, it's my favorite on this album. Head Down gets in your face. Lights In the Sky calms you down, and that makes an album good. Hard music, then something to calm down. Corona Radiata made chills go down my spine. The Four Of Us are Dying mellowed my out and I think I fell asleep to this song once. Demon Seed to me seems misplaced in the album, but great song to just end with still. Personally, I think it would sound a little better putting Demon Seed after Head Down. It still has that little pump to it in the drums, but it opens up better for Lights In The Sky. But hey, thats just me.

TEAM SHOTTS - A SURE BUY FOR NIN FANS

THIS ALBUM IS AWESOME REMINDS ME OF PRETTY HATE MACHINE BUT DARKER/INDUSTRIAL TRENT IS A GENIUS PLUS U GET A DVD OF THEM IN THE STUDIO!!! IVE LISTENED TO THIS ALBUM ALL DAY TRENT IS BACK WITH A VENGENCE

YouWillKnowMyName - Trent Does It Again!

I've been lacking some new NIN and this DEFINATLY hits the spot!

A.K. 47 - Good album

The best song is easily Corona Radiata.

AustinLovelace - Trent Reznor Slipped

The return of Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails. I can honestly say that I am a huge fan of the Nine Inch Nails. Trent Reznor is amazing, how he writes two albums in two years. But that is part of the problem with this album. For one, it has only ten tracks, for two, only one song is worthy of money, and third, most of the tracks sound like some technical marathon. This just isn't Trent Reznor's best work in my opinion. "Discipline" is the only track worthy of your money on this album. "Echoplex" is probably the next best, if you have money like that, and "1,000,000" is definitely Nine Inch Nails material. This album really needed more time. When you look at most of these tracks, they all sound the same. The only one that stands out, as I said before, is "Discipline" and possibly "Echoplex." Looking back at some of Trent Reznor's previous albums, such as the 2007 Release "Year Zero." Trent Reznor actually created a story about the album, and the 2005 Release "With Teeth" had many hit songs such as "The Hand That Feeds," "Only," and, my personal favorite, "Every Day Is Exactly the Same." I just don't think this album will compete with the other greats. Click yes if you agree with me, or click no if you disagree.

Blind Man - Dont like it.

Not a fan of this cd. I like there old stuff but not this.

B.Cullen - good but....

this cd was amazing but you could get the album for free on their website. its a new concept trent resnor is trying out. ( for those of you without itunes cash, check it out)

fistoffuzz - awesome

great album, buy it. enough said.

underdosed - Disappointing in Every Way

I wonder, sometimes, how often Reznor thinks he can inject the words "hands-and-knees" into a record. Three decades of it, and fans are still hearing the same thing from him -- only now it's watered-down and without passion. THE SLIP is a dramatic letdown after the encouraging and uplifting soundscape provided by GHOSTS I-IV. Here we have tired, repetitive music, and even worse lyrics. The riffs are less complicated than ever and the drums are off-putting in their loud and obnoxiously stagnant rhythms. The only song on here worth purchasing is "Lights in the Sky," and that is because it is a masterpiece. Hands down, one of the best songs Reznor's ever composed. Ignore the rest. The record may have been offered for free from his website, but a buck for a really good song ain't shabby. Buy "Lights in the Sky," but nothing else. I'm disappointed, to say the least, that this record is rated so highly. NIN fans really do encourage some bad behavior from Reznor when giving such ridiculous adulation.

Frugal Photographer NJ - Still My Favorite Artist.

Every album makes be love Nine Inch Nails even more. And having Trent relase albums more often just is the best.

Peter Hoffman - Nine Inch Nails is back!

He bounced back from his own Year Zero! Trent Reznor has become a man! And it's tastey!

TheWretched - Lacking a little...

All I have to say is this; Where are the rest of Trent's albums? Pretty Hate Machine... where is this cornerstone of NIN? Not here... Disappointed... If you're a true NIN fan, like i have been for the last 14 yrs, then this is not the place for you.

hard rokk - Gotta Luv em

I love nine inch nails, in fact i'm going to their concert tonight, but i dont see the point in buying this when you can get it on their website for free. I think it is pretty CHEAP of iTunes to try and make a profit off of this...

jbarista - Awesome

Trent Reznor is probably the only person alive today who can still manage to write great music. Not to mention Reznor is simply amazing with his fans and probably the most unselfish musician alive today. The Slip is the best album of the decade.

LPfan2021 - Excellent CD

A great CD that brings back some of the old NIN. Still, unless you're going to buy the physical CD (which I recommend) just get it for free from the site.

def_mo - trent still kicking out the jams

play loud!!! iTunes what about the Ghosts album?

apex23 - Lacks typical Nin quality

Hey I love NIN. They are one of my favorite bands, but this album just seems like it was rushed. It lacks substance. In my opinions 1,000,000, Discipline, Echoplex, and The Four of US are Dying.

TheMarkron - Awesome music( of course its trent) but..

why pay for it when you can get it legally for free? Also, most user friendly album he's ever made? perhaps you've never listened to a little album called "with teeth"...

RoboHippoz - decent compaired to other NIN albums

This album is free on the NIN website

fossilguy137 - good cd

good cd, but you can get it free right from his website.

bscanup - free!

if you go to their site this alb is a free download

zeppelinzfan - pay for it

Quit saying iTunes sould have this album as free. It was on the website for free only to people who actally knew about it (a lot didn't) and only for a LIMITED TIME. Are you forgetting that Trent Reznor has to make money somehow? They don't do that by waiting tables at Waffle House. Besides, this album is good, who wouldn't want them to get the money from it? After all, it is well-deserved. This is my favorite Nine Inch Nails album.

shackleford - great

THIS IS FOR FREE ON NINE INCH NAILS WEBSITE

Clams - Oh, The Droning

First of all, I love NIN and appreciate the fact that this album was a giveaway to fans. But it's not "great." It's almost like a rewritten sampler of work from his previous releases except for a few songs. When Trent sang "Every Day Is Exactly The Same" he wasn't kidding. I didn't expect a huge difference in theme/music/lyrics but he's really rehashing a few here. If I'd never heard a previous NIN work, I'd say it was a marvelous recording. But it sounds like a throwaway to me in contrast to earlier stuff. I had to comment after seeing the glowing praises that this album was a revelation and the second coming of "The Downward Spiral. " Maybe I'll change my mind after more listens but that's where I'm at right now.

batter - Good Job Mr. Reznor

I love Trent's music, very motivating!

robotkirby - Yet another Masterpiece

Trent Reznor does it again! This album is just one more notch in Trents amazing list of Albums. Also, as a long running NIN fan I downloaded this Album, Also planing on buying it too. Keep up the great work Trent!

rdh2108 - Great

Trent does it again great album

Jamez2727 - DO NOT PURCHASE

Dont purchase this on iTunes because Nine Inch Nails has this abum for free on their website. Nothing against iTunes though. Vote five cause I just saved you ten bucks.

MacMan101 - You can get this for free

Just go google the slip and sign up and you get an email sent to you. They give you more than just one codeq to listen to it in.

Aware and Awake - Amazing combination of old and new

Year Zero never caught my attention. With Teeth was certainly more attractive to my ears as it filled in some blanks from The Fragile. I've listened to this at least 5 times and it's kept my attention, every time. It's Trent at his best; telling a story, presenting the obvious, and leaving his listeners wanting more. I really love this album. It's exactly what I wanted it to be.

Sexy_Bob - Paying?

Why would you pay for this album when Nine Inch Nails put it up for free on their website? Doesn't seem a little pointless and somewhat of a rip off? Click "yes" if you think iTunes should put this album up for free.

sfguitarist - Eerie and Beautiful

Fantastic album! NIN never disappoints! Support great artists like NIN. Support great companies like Apple! BUY your music on iTunes. I know Trent gave this album as a gift to fans but I still buy all my music from Apple iTunes. It's just seamless and I like to support both Apple and my favorite artists. Quality over quantity. That is what will save the world.

eriksalas2580 at gmail.com - good album

one of the greatest albums NIN has ever released but why isn't there Ghosts I-IV

Sparkntaco - good album

all these great albums and still no prettyhatemachine on here. =(

edrock 78 - amazing

amazing

2_Face - hate myself/ great album

i really think the album itself deserves 5 stars i'm mad at iTunes and doing what i hate when people do: hurt the rating because of something else besides the album. so sorry :-( but does it daunt you how this great political album with meaning and sound back to mort subotnick and the original buchla gets beaten by *shudder* hannah montana and other crap like that?

Message2montauk - Very cool album, especially for new listeners

As a new NIN fan, I have to say this album is amazing, particularly Discipline. I feel slightly guilty because I downloaded it, but I might buy it to give Reznor the money he deserves. As a huge Clash and Rage Against the Machine fan, this album rules.

Milkman519 - The Slip

I’m sure someone out there is going to chastise me for liking this quite a bit better than Year Zero, or really any NIN release of the last several years, but I don’t care. I do, dammit. The thing about The Slip is that, to me at least, it feels like the most solid blending of the grimy, industrial noise of old NIN with the higher-energy, slightly dancier rhythms of the more modern NIN material. Stuff like “Echoplex” and “Discipline” are probably some of my favorite NIN songs since the glory days.

alexwellz - uhh....

I'm not really that much of a fan but I'm kinda trying to like them. I'm forced sometimes to listen to them and I'm a HUGE Jonas Brothers fan. So maybe I'll buy a few songs.

GoEatABiscuit - amazing album

from beginning to end this is a great album, especially with this being Trent Reznor's 3rd album in the past two years, in comparison to releasing an album and then having to wait 5 years for a new one. Honestly though, i want to know how many people are actually buying this from itunes when it's free on their website
