Heartfelt songs. Gentle harmonies. Raw, unabashed honesty. Hobart singer/songwriter Amy Kendall will soothe your soul with her angelic voice, floating guitar melodies and insightful ‘storytelling’ lyrical style. Hailing from a small town in NSW, Amy picked up a guitar and taught herself to play and started writing songs at the age of 13. With influences ranging from Sarah McLachlan, The Waifs, Clare Bowditch, Edie Brickell and Joni Mitchell, Amy has carved her own unique style from a blend of folk, roots and pop music. Since moving to Tasmania in 2005, Amy has been captivating Hobart audiences with her sweet, soulful voice, flowing guitar melodies and honest, down-to-earth songwriting style. Now a regular at venues across Tasmania, Amy has become a familiar face on the original music circuit, both in Hobart and across the state. In 2006-2007 Amy held a residency at one-time Sandy Bay establishment Gilt Cafe and Restaurant, charming Friday night audiences and fostering a diverse and healthy music community through a variety of local support acts. She has also worked her magic on many a delighted punter at The Republic Bar, Alleycat Bar, Telegraph Hotel, Taste of Tasmania, CBar @ Waterfront Hotel, Lark Distillery, Maginty’s (Burnie), Brookfield Vineyard, D’Art Factory, Tasmanian Inn and many other local venues. In 2008 Amy was joined by Tore Pedersen on bass guitar, and Andrew Smyth on percussion, with plenty of help from her friends for the recording of ‘Hot Stars in a Cold Sky’ EP. This was released in November 2008 to a standing only crowd at the Alley Cat Bar in North Hobart. Amy was invited to perform alongside some of Australia’s blues greats at the Australian Blues Music Festival in February 2009, where she captivated audiences across all venues of the festival and regaled stories of interstate. In early 2009 Amy, Tore and Andrew decided they needed a formal name and Amy Kendall and the Kitchenhands was born. In December 2009 Amy released her second EP ‘A Week of Saturdays’ as a limited edition release, each hand numbered and tied with string. Amy Kendall & the Kitchenhands topped off 2009 with a performance at the Taste Festival and played in the Arts Village at the Falls Festival. In January 2010 Amy and the band played three shows to a home crowd at the Cygnet Folk Festival. With a sweet blend of mandolin, banjo, ukulele, hand drums, guitars, bass and stomp boxes, Amy Kendall and the Kitchenhands are the perfect recipe to kick back, relax and settle in for some great tunes. raw, unabashed honesty.
