Carolina Gold Biography
A little bit country…a little bit rock and roll…and bathed in a whole lot of Southern Comfort. Carolina Gold is the south’s newest export, that much like whiskey, requires time to age but has yielded a result every bit as strong and bold. Led by Grammy nominated singer-songwriter and Carolinian Rhett Canipe, the trio is rounded out by guitarist Joe Kane from Oklahoma and bassist Kevin Whitsett from North Carolina. The band members’ southern roots show up on their songs “Ms TN”, “On & On” and “Southern Comfort”. “Where we’re from, it’s trucks and tractors and dirt roads,” Canipe shares. “Everybody grows up and works around the same place and no one really leaves that town.” They may have grown up hog hunting and fishing, but the members of Carolina Gold individually discovered a love of music early on. Their diverse influences—ranging from Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Marshall Tucker Band to Blackberry Smoke and Eric Church — are expertly woven throughout their music. Canipe and the rest of the band, who have appeared at the Grand Ole Opry 8 times, are not afraid of hard work either. “We’ve always been that blue collar kind of band that’s just hard work and dreams; and you put them together, and you make something happen.” That embrace of the grind paired with just the right amount of aging has produced Carolina Gold's 100 proof Country Rock sound.
