D E P R E S S E D 0 4 0 is a duo from Malmö, Sweden formed by Diazepam/Micke Engelberger (Offerstigen, Happyhour, Idiot Child) in late 2013-early 2014, later joined by Anna Helmersson (Tropical Vampire, Body & Guts) in 2017 (citation needed). Coining their work as "Depressive Suicidal Witch House", D040 made gloomy experimental and dark electronic music inspired by DSBM musicians (citing Lifelover, Apati, and Hypothermia specifically) and witch house music like White Ring. The music is specifically crafted to reflect everyday misery via lo-fi sounds and melodies, hip-hop beats, distorted bass, and haunting vocals. Lyrical content and song titles are descriptive of dealing with heartache, mental illness, addiction, self-harm, and suicide. They have released 2 studio albums, 8 EPs, 2 singles, 1 live album, and 1 compilation. As of March 2022, Micke declared on Instagram (@depressed040) that they would no longer be releasing music, saying " it feels like we have said everything [we needed to say]", also mentioning that other band commitments and parenthood (for Anna) have left them with no time for the project. They have however hinted that D040 will play gigs in the future.
