James Jackson Jazz Trio Biography

James Jackson Jazz Trio is a jazz collective based from New York City, led by composer and piano player Julian Shore. They have released their music via Chill Palm Sounds / Chill Tone Records. Julian Shore, who also performs as Alfons Daiminger, is a pianist and composer originally from Narragansett, Rhode Island, and currently based in New York. He has released 11 singles as Alfons Daiminger, while his six albums are released under his real name. From a young age, Shore displayed a strong inclination towards music, inspired by his father's performances of Bach on their home piano. He began formal piano lessons early on and later studied with renowned educator Hal Crook during his teenage years. This led to him receiving a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music. During his time at Berklee, under the mentorship of Danilo Perez, he had the opportunity to participate in the Panama Jazz Festival, where he learned from esteemed musicians such as Wayne Shorter, Brian Blade, and John Patitucci. After graduating, Shore relocated to New York, where he quickly gained valuable performing experience as part of singer Gretchen Parlato's band. Together, they toured extensively across the United States and internationally, including notable performances at the Stockholm Jazz Festival in 2010. In 2012, Shore released his debut album, "Filaments," under his real name Julian Shore. The album featured acclaimed musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Noah Preminger, Tommy Crane, and Phil Donkin, and received critical acclaim. His second album, "Which Way Now?," released in 2016, further showcased his musical prowess and featured collaborations with artists including Gilad Hekselman, Dayna Stephens, and Aidan Carroll. Since then, Shore has established himself as a highly sought-after pianist in the vibrant New York jazz scene. He has performed as a leader and a sideman at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and The Blue Note, as well as jazz festivals worldwide. Shore has had the privilege of sharing the stage and recording with an impressive roster of musicians, including Theo Bleckmann, Ferenc Nemeth, Don Braden, Romero Lubambo, and Kurt Rosenwinkel, among many others. Notable performances and collaborations extend beyond the United States, with Shore's talents taking him to Europe, Asia, and South America, where he has captivated audiences at renowned venues and festivals. His versatility and depth as a composer and bandleader have earned him recognition from reputable publications such as DownBeat and JazzTimes, with the latter hailing him as one of the "leaders of the young jazz piano scene." Beyond his accomplishments as a performer, Shore actively contributes to music education. He has served as an artistic consultant for Herbie Hancock's Master Class on masterclass.com, transcribing and notating the legendary pianist's performances for the course. Shore also teaches privately at the New School and the New York Jazz Academy, in addition to conducting workshops and masterclasses at universities and performance venues worldwide.
