Sam is a sweet smoldering goof on Instagram but donāt let that fool you, heās very talented and these songs show hidden depth I didnāt quite (know I could) expect. Very glad I pre-ordered the album - as Sam suggested - instead of just cherrypicked sings; the album in-full feels like a comprehensive story heās been waiting a while to share & could no longer contain. In no way disappointed, in fact Iām pretty chuffed.
I saw this album on the new release list on iTunes and thought he looked like a guy from a band I like. I gave a few tracks a listen and decided to buy the whole thing! Great album and artist!
Sam Fender is the most important new artist of the last few years. He's going to be around for a long time.
Poor guy has been brainwashed into thinking it's not OK to be white. Must be hard self loathing yourself.
Never had heard of him until I saw him a few weeks ago on BBCAmerica and the Graham Norton Show. I was impressed! Then I read the recent Rolling Stone article that listed him as one of the ten new artists to watch. So when I saw this album on ITunes I listened. Lots of interesting music that challenges me. Very enjoyable. And āWhite Privilegeā.... OMG! I canāt believe he is in his early 20s and wrote this album!!! Looking forward to more over the years.
Im not apologizing for being white and tired of the white shaming for something we were not around for.
Iāve been following Sam for a while, and Iām so glad the full album is finally out. Such a great sound and lyrics that actually mean something. Great to see from young new musicians. I canāt wait to see what else he does.
how did i only just discover this now? not just the album (since itās about 5 days old as of this review writeup) but this artist?? one of the more technically interesting and sonically charming albums iāve listed to in recent months
Stay out of politics kid. Not saying I disagree or agree. Just stop putting them in songs
Finally music that is really Music! None of the auto-tuned voice-overs and electronic rubbish weāve been inundated with over the last 10 yrs. Proof to this generation that you can make great music going back to basics! Lyrics also meaningful (Hypersonic Missiles). Strongly recommended!
I listened to the first couple of tracks and I started loving your sound, even the backstory to the music was beautiful. How you had a life threatening illness was impactful and I heard it in your voice. Then I saw āwhite privilegeā and I thought he seems talented heāll probably do something ironic, or try to show both sides of the situation. Googled the lyrics and I was really disappointed man. Whites arenāt like that (and Iām Latino), the world isnāt black and white, and itās dangerous to be spreading that kind of ideology. Stick to your heart and soul, your passion is whatās going to attract people, not your politics...
Best of anything in a very looooooooooong time.
Love it. He seems like heād be nice to have a conversation with.
This lad is the Geordie Bruce Springsteen . best album i have heard since i first heard Bruce Springsteen and the e street bands album The River for the first time in my bedroom in Whitley Bay at the age of 14 in 1980. he will be a legend globally.
Only buy if you support moronic SJW nonsense
The Springsteen comparisons are overdone in my opinion.. You hear minor hints of Bruce in some of his delivery, but stylistically these are not songs that Bruce would write. Definitely, more Buckley in that regard.
The Borders got me hooked and then I started listening to his other songs on YouTube. I appreciate that all the songs are pleasant to listen to while also saying some pretty profound things. āUseā is heavenly. Iām going to assume all the negative comments on other reviews about White Privilege are written by white men. Even if you donāt agree, why canāt he comment on his view of the topic and his place in the world? Iāve watched a few interviews w Sam and he seems very down to earth and self deprecating to a fault. Iām a fan! Hope he comes to the US to tour.
Looks like I found an album that I will be listening to nonstop for the next 2-3 months. Lyrically and musically entertaining. Thank you for this.
This kid comes from a very lower class background. He and his family have struggled a lot, especialy after what Thatcher did to them. He has absolutley every right to speak his truth. He has every right to speak about his experiences and bring it to our attention. Of course his songs are political, they're what he has lived. How about you listen for a change?
Tis guys politics ruinned this album for me.
Itās an awesome album and I specifically decided to write a review because of the folks complaining about his āpoliticsā. You know the type of folks...as long as itās not affecting them they call you sensitive for being bothered but the second anyone tells them the truth about themselves, they get all upset. So if those kind of people donāt like the album, you know itās pure gold.
Great album I only wish iTunes hadn't screwed up my download. Bought Play God as a single and now it won't show up in the track list for the album. They really screwed up iTunes when they added their streaming service crap.
Nevermind the people always complaining about people getting offended who got offended by art that challenges their narrow worldview. Fantastic work, wonderful lyricism and instrumentalism. Really reminds you that no matter how many people say it, good music has never died and will never die so long as there are bright, talented people like this guy still wandering around our whacked out world.
I listened to one of the songs and liked what I heard, but then checked the reviews a saw the politic rant and I was done. Why is it hip now to apologize for one's race? Don't these idiots realize they're eliminating whole groups of people with these statements.
