45 by Shinedown MP3 Info

"45" is a song by American rock band Shinedown. The song was released on July 13, 2003, on the album "Leave a Whisper". Following the album's release, "45" became a popular single. An acoustic cover of "45" was featured on the album's re-release on June 15, 2004. "45" placed twelfth among U.S. Modern Rock and third among U.S. Mainstream Rock songs after its release. Brent Smith (the lead singer and songwriter) has stated in an interview: "The inspiration from the song really came from – I think a lot of people kinda take a literal sense because of the lyrics – but the song is basically about the day that you wake up and you look at yourself in the mirror and you finally decide that you want to try to become comfortable in your own skin, and realize that you’re gonna have to make yourself happy before you’re going to make anyone else happy. And basically, the 45 isn’t an actual literal term for a gun, I used it as a metaphor for the world, the .45 is actually the world and what it hands you every day of your life. When you get up, it’s a gift to be alive to begin with. A lot of different people, when I’ve talked about it, they said, “Do you really honestly mean that?” And I’m like, “Well, yeah.” Because I’ve been in that situation where I didn’t know if I wanted to continue going on and I didn’t know how to necessarily make myself comfortable with who I was, trying to find a way of learning more about myself. And you come from a dark place sometimes, and that’s really the reality of the song. It’s about overcoming and about moving forward. And it’s basically about understanding that it’s not always going to be good, but you really have no one to blame for yourself if you don’t move forward. That’s where the whole, “Nobody knows what I believe,” [comes from] because we’re all individuals. So that’s really where it comes from, it’s about moving on, really." The band requested that the music video for "45" be removed from MTV broadcast because the lyrics "the barrel of a .45" and "ashes of another life" were removed from the chorus and the title card of the video referred to the song by the MTV-originated title "Staring Down..." Singer Brent Smith felt the editing blurred the message of the song and MTV was hypocritical since they had played other unedited videos. Smith believed that if they did not wish to play the song as it was written, they should never have broadcast it. Though the edited version of the video was aired a few times without the artists' consent, the song was eventually pulled from the airwaves. MTV had broadcast without editing, in heavy rotation and during daytime hours, Depeche Mode's 1997 music video for the song "Barrel of a Gun". It was never censored on other music video channels or radio although it had in the chorus, "I've been staring down the barrel of a gun"; it caused no controversy and MTV had no concern. Critic on Critics - Burning bright

5 stars for that song, albums cool though

Sabean17 - Greattt!

This is my favorite Shinedown Album! <3

Augustus27 - Excellent debut

This review is harsh. I think Shinedown is one of the most original sounding rock bands left. Also, Greenday is punk so it's not really the same genre so don't compare them

Omg idk - Recomending this to anyone

I would recomend this to anyone who asks or even don't ask just recomend it to whoeverwants to know

Tabsbutterfly - Awesomeness

I got this album when I was really young, it was before they were as mainstream as they are now. This album is one of the best I own, burning bright is my fav song on the album. Please also listen to simple man, you don't just hear a song, you feel the music inside of yourself.

MADKC4Ever - Next step!!!

If you heard The Sound of Madness first, and are going to start hearing more albums from Shinedown, pick this one as the next step :) It's a great album!!! While there werent any huge hits on it like The Sound of Madness, it's still terrific, maybe even better!!!! TAKE THE NEXT STEP!!

Nathanisdaman - Woooooo

\•_•/ this album us amazing

Echo Teg - Burning Bright

Best shinedown cd to date. All the songs are awesome. Recommend this cd to many many people

Jaydowg_12314 - First?????

Wow can this really the first album?? Usually the 1st album is awful! This is absolutely golden. I think I just won the POWERBALL!! Can it be topped???

Grand Admiral Chewie - Shinedown's best album

This is Shinedown at their best. Most people prefer the Sound of Madness, but that album was too radio friendly for me. This is perfect hard rock / alternative metal with a tad of southern rock thrown in. It's also free of profanity, another reason i prefer this over sound of madness. Solos are decent, lyrics are good, and in all it's a good album. Better than most in its genre. Best songs- Fly From the Inside, Lost In the Crowd, In Memory, Crying Out, 45

FSUlover722 - shinedown

this is by far the best album they did.

Rising-Fang - One of the best Albums!

I love this album, especially because of Simple Man, 45, Burning Bright, and my personal favorite song ever, Stranger Inside; Even though not everyone care for Stranger Inside, it turned out to be my number 1 favorite song. This album and Sound of Madness are must buy's, but you should check out all the albums as well.

This app was good at iOS 4 - I'm so Lucky to know these guys in person there awesome

Everyone buy this to help my friends out

Combat7810 - Good

I remember fly from the inside from mx vs atv unleashed

tkd midgit - Shinedown is AWESOME

I remember my dad getting this before they were even famous. We listened to it alot. Reminds of of my elemenatry school days in Arizona. My favorite album from them!

Elizabith1900 - Like it.

I actually like this type of music. I didn't think I would be the kind of person to like rock but everywhere I turn I'm finding another rock band that sounds amazing. If any of you haven't heard of 10 years then look them up. They are Amazing along with this band. - Elizabith <3

TheRowanTree32 - WOW

I have been hooked on Shinedown for about a year now....I am in love with them!!!!! this album is my favorite followed by Us and Them. I just hope there newest album is more like those than SOM....:) 

tj9lives - Awesome

This is an old album to write a review on but I'm writing random reviews on here and I had to do this one without a doubt. I just love their music to no end. They're incredibly talented with the instrumentals and Brent really has lyrical talent as well. They're newest album, 'Amarylis' will surely have numerous hits to come on it after they've already had 2 big ones, "Bully" and "Unity". They'll be successful as long as they're a band. Solo albums won't do so much for this band in my opinion. They're good as a whole and it needs to stay that way for them. Keep rocking guys.

الدطبدر - So goood

Love press buy you will regret it

bucketgang - Really good

Really good album and band

SmackDaddy808 - Not Too Good

This album is long and boring. With "45" being the only good song on here, this album is what I like to consider a slow, painful death.

morgans music - sexy

these boys sound hot

ShinedownJNKE - Touching

Well I didn't buy the cd off of iTunes, but I did get it from the store. It comes with three bonus songs, one of them is called Simple Man. I can say, it's a heart breaker, not as it's bad, but it's a sad sounding song. Brent sings it with such conviction. It goes through even the solid of hearts. I own every album, even The Sight of Maddness. They are all must haves. I am the kind that their Leave a Wisper album is directed. On the inside they have a saying that the album was made for the out casts of society. The ones who are ignored day after day. I would rate this album the best album they have released. 20/10 Great Job Shinedown!

Marincube - Awesome!!

My faves are fly from the inside and burning bright this is the best album by far

Pizza727 - Shine down

This is a top five debut album! Of the 15 songs not one is bad, and if you like acoustic guitar the last three are spectacular.

BeragoVIch - a little history

i first heard this song when i was playing mvp baseball 2003 they had fly from the inside on the album i was only 8 at this point but when the sound of madness came out i was looking at there other stuff and saw fly from the inside and im like "i f^^*&%n no that song! now there one of my favorite bands

got_no_where_to_be - my favorite band!

I've been listening to shinedown for years, I know basically every lyric to almost every song, they were great live, and they are great to listen to. It's a wonder why it took people this long to catch on :) buy it, you wont regret spending your money on them.

aslfj - Great album, not the best

Shinedown is a great band who i would say have gotten better as they go. Sound of madness is incredible. us and them is amazing. this one is solid.. but not as good. They are an incredible band and you should get all of the cds.

mrwigglez - Shinedown is the best!

One of the most underrated bands! so much better than greenday and other good bands.

EddiesRecruit - Sounds awesome!!!

These guys remind me so much of Savatage in their glory days..and thats a VERY good thing!!!!

The Beast12 - Great stuff

These songs are amazing there put together really well!! A must on any ipod. Get the song 45!!

blawblawblaw - Worth every cent.

One of the last rock bands that actually get better with every new album. I would recomend this album to anyone. Just a good solid rock album.

Sara Freund - Shinedown is Amazing.

I have the hard copy of this album & I love it I have been a fan of them since the beginning. And I love the songs on this album but if I had to pick my favorites would have be In Memory, Burning Bright, Crying Out, Stranger Inside & 45.

Sausage (Felipe Caldeira) - Futsal Goddesses loves SD!⚽️

12 years later, this album aged well. I had the deluxe version on hard copy. The highlight songs are: -Fly from the inside -Left out -Crying out -45 (staring down...) Fly from the inside is my favourite off this record, it's basically my get-up-and-go song. Left out sounds a lot like Fuel's Won't back down, and well, I guess Better version's okay. Not bad for a first record!! Fans of Fuel, POM, and early NickelBack would've gotten into this band. Oh, & my favourite Shi song of all time is The crow & the butterfly (dandelions lost in the summer sky!!)

Ryansk99 - 6 star album!

This album is amazing, theres so much emotion. I love every shinedown album and I think they are the best metal band that has ever lived

Matta997 - Awesome

By the way, Shinedown NEW ALBUM coming out May 1st!

golfpro11 - GREAT GREAT BAND

Heard them play on an HBO movie. Movie called the BLINDSIDE (not the football movie) movie about a boy that lost his sight and this was his favorite band.

kill'emall - this was when shinedown wasnt known...

and were awesome! fly from the inside is such an amazing song!

That one guy76 - *The Best of Shinedown*

The Sound of Madness by Shinedown is my favorite Rock Album, but Leave A Whisper is my favorite Shinedown Album. It is unique, it doesn't sound like mainstream rock and I love all the songs. Every single one. Now Shinedown hasn't been, well, great with their lyrics, but these are very good. The rythm's of the songs and the overall sound is awsome. And there are 12 of these songs to boot, who can beat that! I first listened to the Sound of Madness, and was hooked, found this album and wow. It's amazing. Every single song could be your favorite, don't go by the iTunes popularity bar, every song is good. Let me just rate each one: Fly from the Inside - It's okay, a good opening song. 8.5/10 Left Out - Good song, nice album filler. 8.2/10 Lost in the Crowd - I like this song, nice rythm and vocals. 9/10 No More Love - Underrated, very good. 9.1/10 Better Version - Another underrated song, like this one better. 9.3/10 Burning Bright - I love this song, good vocals and guitar. 9.6/10 In Memory - Other than "45", this is my favorite song on the album. 9.9/10 All I Ever Wanted - Another good song, just not up to par to some. 9.2/10 Stranger Inside - Good song, I love the chorus. 9.5/10 Lacerated - Good song again, pretty dramatic song. 9/10 Crying Out - It's okay, nice filler song. 8.7/10 45 - FANTASTIC!!! I <3 this song! Amazing, powerful, and sad at the same time. 11/10 Overall, this album is one you can listen to over and over again without getting tired of the songs, I've listend at least 100 times to each song, and still love them. You can not call yourself a Shinedown fan without purchasing this album. Recommended Tracks: 1) 45 2) In Memory 3) Burning Bright 4) Stranger Inside

Kenny334 - Shinedown at their best

This is by far Shinedown's best album yet. If you're new to Shinedown and you're on the fence between this, Sound of Madness, Us and Them or Amaryllis, get this one. You will not be let down.

Warriorchick - Luv it

So I got Sound of Madness cuz of one of their song I heard on the radio and I love every song I have have heard from them and I recomend them to all my friends!!!

gstak92 - Iconic 2000s Rock Album!

This album defines early 2000s Hard Rock! What an incredible album! One of Shinedown’s best, if not their best! A must have for every rock fan!

Lola99778 - Great!

I truly really like these songs \ (^_^ )/

mmccarth - good cd

this albumn is probably shinedowns best one

RCNH - Incredible live performers!

I just saw them Friday night, at an outside venue in NH. Chevelle opened and Staind was the headlining act. I honestly went to see Staind (for the 4th time) and Shinedown blew me away with the best sound and attitude. THEY WILL BE HEADLINING their own tours soon! Their sound is pure and their live performance lets you know that they are NOT a studio band, they are the real deal.

Jay dog 2012 - G.....

Eric Lynch - AWESOME
