Mega*Mix - Suggestion...

Next time you're in New York or San Francisco, walking quickly down the street towards an important meeting, go ahead and crank 'Metal' as you cruise down Lexington Ave or Market St. No need to thank me, I'll know how much you appreciate it. This album is AMAZING!

TheGrafx1 - Nice Jamm for back in the day

I remember listening to this song on my way home from the Mall, downtown. It was another one of those 80's songs that kids loved to jamm to!

Charmless Man - Now that is a deal!!

This is a great price to pay for this album, it realy is one of the first steps twords the wavy 80s and as the THINK_FISH soooo deeply put it maybe his best album that he ever put togeather with nothing but his pure heart and thought. Trust me great album, fun to listen to, and oh yea "CARS" one of the best ever put songs no itune cube is finished with out this hit been deeply intrenched in its data.

Pgkess - A Transformational Album

I was born in 1966. I was around 12 when I saw Gary perform on SNL. I bought the vinyl record that week following. It was truly electrifying! There was NO ONE out there like him at the time. I played this to my beautiful 20 year old daughter the other day ( wore out the original vinyl, years ago, good thing for digital). She was as blown away; as when I first heard it 35 years prior ( yes we are old Gary :). This is way 'out of the box', and more than stands the test of time. Absolutely a classic!

jenniferlrye - Layers upon layers of synth pop cake...YUMMY!

A VERY melodic and hypnotic effort by the venerable godfather of the genre...lots of gems in this one... and that doesn't even count the 7 (SEVEN!!) extra tracks. The lyrics are Numan at his best; simultaneously very personal and isolationistic. Sometimes accuse of being unoriginal, here Numan blends the influences of his reading and music to yield a unique compote of freshly stewed angst and estrangement. The driving beat has influenced countless musicians in it's wake, and has been sampled and mimiced by Snoop Dogg as well as the Intel corporation. You have to admit that something is UP when you can count a no. 1 hit, a gansta hip hop song and a computer commercial soundtrack as your legacy. Not without reason....absolutely worth every penny. So good I was happy to buy my 3rd copy in 20 years, this time as a download. Thank you Mr. Webb. Thank you.

billh66 - this is for true electronic fans!!

Gary Numan is the pioneer of electronic music love all the songs especially on broadway and remember i was vapour!!

Strong boy 95 - ONE HIT WONDER

If you ask me they have one good song and that is "Cars" which is a good song. The rest of there songs are a waste of money but i do suggest you buy "Cars".

Th3_ €Dg3_ ^_^ - Hey all u haters!

This album is awesome and the only dull track is the one that is two songs b4 cars(because it sounds just like it). ALL the synth sounds are awesome even if they are similar. Cars is NOT a one hit wonder to the chap that said that. this is an all but one hit album...

scottn59c - "Cars" is a Classic, But The Novelty Wears Thin...

Most interesting is how the album mangaes to rock without the presence of guitars. Least interesting is that all the tracks sound the same and lack continuity, turning the listening experience into something of an amorphous drone. While nearly every keyboard-dominated musical genre with roots in the late 70s from New Wave to Industrial to Goth have attempted to appropriate "The Pleasure Principle" as an early masterpiece of their canon, the idea of what the album represents trumps what it actually is. Numan's processed vocals don't hide the limitations of his delivery; the same vocal melodies are found in nearly every track, adding further to their sense of inseperability. "Cars" is the song you know and probably the only one you need from this collection.

The Ruiner - An Amazing Synthpop Release

"The Pleasure Principle" (named after one of Freud's psychoanalytic terms) is an amazing retro synthpop album. The AMG review says "there is not a single weak moment on the disc," ad it's absolutely correct. Some highlights are "Metal", about the fusion of man and machine, and "Cars", the endlessly catchy 80s hit.

KujoFam - Good News 1979

In 1979 Gary Numan released this third studio album of his. With reaching #1 on the UK charts, The Pleasure Principle is the kind of music that inspires modern day music. Tracks like M.e., Observer, and, Conversation are all great songs that lead up to Gary Numan's most popular hit: Cars. It is greatful we had artists like Gary Numan around to later inspire the bands of the future!

Hortron - A Perenial Gem

I bought this album in vinyl back in 1979 by a recommendation by a friend. It was a record that I would listen to and put on the shelf for a year and pull it back out and say "Wow! This is some good music. I must listen to it more." Then put back on the shelf for a year. Needless to say, I never wore it out so it always sounded fresh. This album is a timeless classic that is a must have in your collection.

Temple run is fantasmic - Best song ever

This is the best freakin song ever I love the minin moog synth it sounds so authentic

Dosvp - Ahead of his time

Please more of this. Give me Metal

jmilby - Still Relevant Today

Listen to modern music and you will find Gary Numan sampled. Even obscure tracks like "M.e." can be heard in the Basement Jaxx's "Where's Your Head At".

mulgamutt - What memories!

I was starting high school in Australia when Tubeway Army hit the charts with "Are Friends Electric?" I was hooked... and I'd sit in the stairwell halfway up to the dormitory (it was a boarding school) with my tinny little pocket radio, where it'd get the best reception, and soak it all in every time it was played on the Australian Top 40. Everyone else, of course, thought I was weird. Then "The Pleasure Principle" came out (or at least I discovered it), and it was the first music of any kind I ever bought on my own. A cassette that I wore out. I'll continue to wear this out. Great stuff, ahead of its time, different, original, timeless. (Ironically, I only came to find out Numan is an Aspie [Asperger's Syndrome] after discovering both my son and myself are Aspies many years later. 'Tis a kinship.) -- Buy this album.

Tetrisd - Awesome 80s Album

I love this album. I bought this album for a few reasons. The first is that I remember liking the song "Cars" when I was a kid (born 1985). I also like the electronic/shoegaze style of music and some of my favorite musicians like Trent Reznor like Gary Numan. The music in this album is simple but entrancing. "Cars" is one of the more energetic tracks and great to rock out to. "Metal" and "Complex" round out my other two favorite tracks. The rest of the songs are pretty good. I definitely recommend those three songs, if not the entire album, to anyone who likes 80's music, shoegaze, or electronic/synth rock.

Thinking_Fish - Thinking_fish

Fix 'Engineers'...it cuts out towards the end!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apart from that, superb, like a moody lab technician pondering the nature of his humanity.

kevsssyyy - Under rated! :(

Cars is the sole song (besides A Flock OF Seagulls "I Ran") that got me into New Wave and 70's and 80's music! :D Gary Numan deserves more than just Cars having a high rating.

King-44 - YES!

One of the best songs on this album. Cars!!! Great music!

ROMULOX7 - ''The Pleasure Principle''... GARY NUMAN!!!

The best song in the history of recorded music is ''Cars''. From the opening drum fill to the closing faded synthesizer of the ''Moog'', '' Cars'' is the best. If Gary brought it back today it would be a hit, but people often overlook the rest of the album, there are some truly amazing tracks. Like ''Complex'', a single that made it to number 6 on the UK charts! Then there is ''Films'' with a great drum beat and some cool synth. And finally, ''Metal'', a truly great and catchy song. People do not focus on the past, though, Gary's new stuff is even better! check out, ''Exile'', ''Pure'' and possibly Gary's best album to date, ''Jagged''. Good luck with your new album, Gary!

Marlboro Guy - An early effort from a great artist

Despite the inclusion of the classic hit single Cars, this is not Numan's best work. The rest of the album is decent but not exceptional really in any way.

J-Moose!!! - Gary Numan Rocks!!!

Gary numan is one of the best singers from the 80's his songs have great beats and sounds my favorites are Cars Me! I disconnect from you Metal

ubangi_stomp - Underrated Masterpiece

This is one of the most under appreciated albums ever. It bridges Goth, Industrial and Rock. Total minimalism. Excellent.

Rkiv - Non-stop "Vox Humana" synthpop. Okay, I'm bored.

This is it, everyone. This album is a milestone in new wave and the music industry. This legendary album is the grandfather of the GARBAGE that consistently plays on Top 40 radio 30 years later! Sure, there are better new wave bands than Gary Numan (a.k.a. Tubeway Army) in it's first wave (late-70s early-80s). For example, Talking Heads, Blondie, The Ramones, and The Clash (despite being branded as punk). Something that really annoys me about this album is that it mainly uses the Polymoog "Vox Humana" preset throughout the album. Why not tweeking those knobs on the synth to get a more creative sound? No track really stands out in this album, except for "Cars" because it was Numan's one-hit wonder. The album itself is a dead drone. If there is only one decent track in this album, it would be the overlooked "Metal". And what makes this album so influential? Take a look at Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, new material from Britney Spears and The Black Eyed Peas, and all the other nonsense charting the Top 40 today. Thank god synthpop was out in the 90s. Too bad it came back in the 00s. Scoring - A1: 65; A2: 76; A3: 74; A4: 72; A5: 62; B1: 60; B2: 57; B3: 48; B4: 46; B5: 55 57/100

Nurk Twin - Cars started it all..

Gary Numan and the song "Cars", in my opinion planted the seed that much of the 80's pop music bloomed from. This is when it all began. JDSB3
