helllooooooooooooooooooo - quit hating

Okay, I have to admit that when I first heard this album, I was extremely dissapointed; I had enjoyed the instant-catchiness of "Chroma" and this album just seemed... bland. But the problem with Chroma was that the songs became sort of old after a few thousand listens. "Cartel", however really started to pull me in after about four listens. Despite what many reviews may say, I found the songs to have plenty of depth and rather interesting overlapping of different melodies, instruments, etc. that make them better and better with each listen. In fact, I found the songs that sounded most like their work from "Chroma" to be among the album's weakest. The point is, everyone keeps hating on Cartel; Those who liked "The Ransom" say they "sold out" on Chroma because they created more upbeat, peppy songs and those who liked "Chroma" say this album was such a huge dissapointment and extremely bland and boring. Maybe, just maybe, they like creating different types of songs. They are a fantastic band and many of the songs are true masterpieces (although the "Wasted" remix is attrocious) despite what all you haters may say...

heyheyhey. - This is amazing

This album is one of the best I've heard... so their sound isn't identical! big whoop... I'm pretty sure that's the point... they obviously wouldn't make more music if they're sound was meant to be the exact same. and wasted is probably the most amazing song I have EVER heard. it is so true... as sad as it may be... so stop wasting your time complaining... and admit it you like itt.

Buttah:GoAsians! - One of the best albums.

Although many seem to think that cartel has indeed taken "a step back" from there previous works, i think that this cd, showed a change in the band. It seemed more mature and i felt that the lyrics really spoke to me. The lyrics in these songs (as hard as it may be to believe by others) have helped me through many situations. Songs like "Wasted" and "Lonely One" are two songs that i belive help you to cope with certain things. And songs like "Tonight" and "Come With Me" are great to listen to while you're in the car. Though in the end lead singer Will Pugh, shows great vocal ranges in "If I Were to Write This Song" as well as many of the others. Some who are disappointed in this cd may be because it is so different from "chroma". It sorta reminds me of the whole deal with Panic At The Disco's new cd, "Pretty. Odd.", and their previous one, "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out". The latest one is dramtically different from the first cd, but change isn't always such a horrible thing. OVERALL: i loved it.

pretzelll - GREAT

well i didnt buy all of the songs, but the ones i did i LOVE. lose it is really addicting the fortunate is great too and WASTED - my FAVE it is one of my alll time favorite songs, its so catchy and great lyricss! IF YOU WERE TO BUY ONE SONG BUY WASTED!

whit15551 - muy bien

so i fell in love with cartel with their first album...chroma. honestly (not to propose a pun), i can't believe i've been missing out on this album for a year! they sound a little bit less 'real' than their first album..but they are still one of my favorite bands.

TheMentalAssistants - What happened?

The rating pretty much sums it up: it's okay. Nothing new here, and that comes from a huge Cartel fan. If you're new to Cartel, may I make a suggestion? Go look up Chroma. Listen to "Save Us", "Settle Down", "The Minstrel's Prayer", "Q", and "A". Emphasis on "Q" and "A". These two songs are nothing short of revolutionary, and the montage is something many bands have attempted but failed at. Cartel kicks their butts.

ABCLyssa93 - very good

everyone keeps saying how this album is bad compared to their first album… honestly its at the same level. i started being a cartel fan from the beginning and i still am. this album is very catchy and has amazing lyrics. its a great package.. i loved their first album and their second album did not disappoint. solid second. they did not have a sophomore slump.. they delivered. good job cartel.

Chip847 - bummer.

their first cd was amazing and i was obsessed with listening to it for like a year.... this not so much. but i really like the wasted remix, lose it, and the fourunate. lose it and the fortunate are the only songs that sound like their old stuff

kaciray - love them

i loooove this album. cartel is one of my top favorite bands. wasted is my favorite, like i am dead in love with it. they made a great album in a bubble for 20 days.

nikkibabi88 - eh not their greatest

i have always loved cartel, they are one of my favorite bands. i became a fan with chroma, which was beyond amazing. i was so excited when this album came out, and yet listening to it let me down a bit. i give them some credit with being in the bubble and everything, but still. there are some good songs, but not like chroma where i rarely skip a song on the soundtrack. with this album, i only listen to half of the cd.

lil werdo dude - The only reason I gave it five stars was because of "If You Do, If You Don't"

I LOVE CARTEL. I HATE THIS ALBUM. The only good song on the entire thing is "If You Do, If You Don't".

cinniman - Right on Cartel

I guess some people are disappointed about them sounding different but we all know that every band gets a new sound when they bring in a new so why does everyonr freakout? People are just complainers. Bands go through phases anyway. its all about establishing a sound and a direction. Great job cartel. plan on listening to your next album.

Hannah<33333 - Best band ever!

Cartel is my favorite band!!! this album is awesome and i love it!!! i can't wait for their new one!!! will pugh is so freakin hot!!! and so is nic!!! i just had to throw that out there! lol

Bradley253 - one of the greatest letdowns ever

i loved the cds chroma, and the ransom. and then this hit stores. so i was pumped to hear all the new twists that they would put into this record. i just dont understand how a band can change so much. dont get me wrong there were a few good songs on the album (georgia, lose it) but it felt like all the songs were empty. there was no hook, no drive. my guess is the new bass player (but i could be wrong). I hopefully like many other fans nave not lost faith in cartel, but am looking forward to the next album to redeem them.

Danieldupree15 - Great Band!

This band is really amazing from the beginning to end. Have all there CDs I really recommend this band and every Album.

the attack wears chiodos - a very sad sophomore slump

i fell in love with the perfection of chroma and this just doesnt even come close. They rushed heir way through writing these songs and i hope they have a huge comeback out of this sophomore slump and re-blow-me-away cause i'm willing to wait however long it takes for another chroma. press yes if you agree

iwasoncealoyallover - bad... very bad.

These guys are from my town... a few are from my high school... which makes it difficult to say this. This CD blows. The Ransom EP was amazing. I don't care what anybody says, it was better than Chroma. If the sound that came out of the Ransom EP could have been developed into a full length album, it would easily trump either of the two CDs Cartel has put out in my book. Not to say that Chroma is not a good CD, because it is. Catchy is definitely the best was to describe Chroma. Every song is catchy catchy catchy. But this CD... wow. See, before it came out I got to listen to the tracks 'Lose It' and 'Wasted', which along with 'the Fortunate' appear to be the only well written tracks on this CD. Based on hearing those tracks before the release, I assumed this CD was going to be a much more mature and better written CD. Nope. Rushed and repetitive. Will Pugh is one of the absolute best singers I've heard, but his lyrical ability and word play blows hard on this CD. The guitar playing is professional, but almost every song sounds like a recycled version of another one. And I swear to god the hook on 'the Fortunate' is a Bon Jovi rip off. Bottom line: if you have to have it, I'd find somewhere to burn it from. Don't buy it.

LEL2419 - they stick to their sound

The album sounds like cartel and in my opinion I would rather listen to this cd than many other artists best albums. I admit chroma was amazing but this one gets the job done. This album is a way better follow up to their first album compared to Boys Like Girls second album. Now that is a sorry excuse for an album if I have ever seen one. If you like cartel and are contemplating on buying this album go ahead and get it because it is worth it

LAFxC - Expected More but Cartel = Love

Cartel worked their but off to make this album in the bubble for about a month. The music though I felt that they should have not done this because I think their music would've been better if they didn't. Most off their songs are fantastic though and can't wait for the album in Febuary.

oogliebooglie34 - Please stop trashing this album!!

First of all, this album is not that bad. I really enjoyed it, and I thought it was worth my money. I agree Chroma was a bit better, but this one is almost as good. My favortites are The Fortunate and Wasted. If You Do, If You Don't, Lonley One,and If I Were To Write This Song are slower songs, but they're still worth a shot. Wasted (Remix) is just plain awful. Totally trashed the normal song. DO NOT BUY THIS SONG!!! I enjoyed all the other ones on the album too. In short, this album isn't bad.

Cactuar Cake - Yes

Obviously

Rater010 - Song

TFew of this song are awesome

kyp1a - SO much better than Chroma...why all the negative reviews?

It seems like the most helpful reviews to listeners are the ones that complain about this CD being too rushed and not as good as their first. In my opinion there is no comparison to the two efforts, this latest one being much stronger. Chroma was impressive enough for a first album but most of the songs lacked the originality to give the CD any longevity. With Chroma, Cartel began as just another one of those pop/rock just-above-the-garage bands with the high melodies and the occassional catchy tune to get you interested enough to listen for more than a minute. With songs like Georgia, The Fortunate, If You Do, If You Don't, This Is Who We Are and especially Wasted, this self-titled album should shatter that reputation. Wasted, in my opinion, is the best song on the album and could be one of the most powerful songs they will ever put out. The album as a whole is very strong with a good intro and a particularly great middle section and uses much more creativity instrumentally than before. All the great qualities about Cartel's first CD are still there, but they have clearly moved out of the garage by this point. This CD should make Cartel supporters excited for what could come out of them in future efforts.

guneagle - good second album

Not amazing, but certainly worth a listen.

zinntastic24 - i like it

I love how people expect bands to just always write the same kind of music. They have to grow as musicians and they have the right to change their style a little. I like this cd a lot. I dont listen to the entire thing like i do with all their other stuff, but there are some amazing songs on here. My favorites are: the best, tonight, lose it, this is who we are, wasted, georgia, and if you do, if you dont. This is who we are is one of the top 25 most played songs on my itunes. I love cartel and i like this cd a lot. Give the new stuff a chance!

tricky4321 - :)

cool album

aliciaeatsthesky - love it

it may have been rushed, but way better than i expected my favorite album by cartel <3

gracelikerainn - AAAH I LOVE CARTEL!

My favorite song on this cd is "The Fortunate". Ohmygosh they are my FAVORITE alternative band! Will is super sexy and have a SUPER SEXY voice! I wouldn't like Cartel as much if he stopped singing! So you can see I'm obsessed with Cartel!! :]

captfalcon - Rushed

As soon as I heard that Cartel was part of the "Band in a Bubble", I became scared of a rushed album that lacked some serious inspiration. Sadly, that's exactly what resulted. The standouts "Tonight", "I Will Hide Myself", and "Wasted" are all great for me, but nothing else appeals to me. The album feels unfinished, unpolished, and full of emotion with no direction. I'm sure the next release will be 10X better, Cartel is awesome.

SETH JOHNSTON - Great album

I dont see why everyone is saying that this album is bad, i love it! the songs are all very good! usually i will just hear a song and hate the rest of an artists songs, but with Cartel, it was a whole different story. The fortunate may have brought me here, but the band was able to make me stay and that is impressive! Great Work!

krista.C - amazing album

i absolutely love it. everything cartel does is AMAZING

Ryanc7926 - My all time favorite album

This self titled album is the more refined version of chroma and the bluesy prequel to cycles. I think it's just underrated because its not as poppy or catchy as most of their other music This album is journey. It is the complete spectrum of what cartel is capable of having tracks with powerful guitar and vocals to more tones down tracks. I love this album and it never gets old to me. I wish they would write more stuff like this.

jazzyminekubo - mad

i absolutely luv CARTEL!!! i bought this whole album & now they wont give me get away & i really lik tht song. so im kinda of upset bout tht!!!!! =< and cw2k1 stop hatein if u dont lik the cd then dont say anything at all!!!! dont put the band down they r tryin

JohnJackJames - It's not catchy but it grows on you.

This album I thought had only a few good songs, but eventually it is such a good album that you want to listen to it a lot. I started to get "wasted" on that song and "Honestly" it doesn't fit with the rest of the album. =) This album is good!

Adogg27 - Lackluster.

The album is just okay. A few decent tracks and a lot of forgettable, sometimes somewhat weird, and off-feeling tracks. Idk if the album was rushed or the band maybe tried to take on too many new things at once, idk. The tracks I'd say to check out are Tonight, Lose It, No Subject (Come With Me), and This Is Who We Are.Those are all fairly to pretty solid. If I had to tack one more track on, I'd say Wasted I guess. Not saying the other tracks are bad, but just nothing special. There is so much better music out there worth checking out over most of this material imo. Anyway hope it helps :)

BigMike45 - Cartel....not enough words

i have seen them live 3 times...amazing...both chroma and cartel cds...stellar

criminalmindslovr - Dude i like it

i dont know what everyone is talking about. i think this album is great, and will's voice is incredible. its just as good as chroma. i actually like the slow songs more but thats just me

Tiede#15 - Dont Listen to the Other Reviews!

Alright... all the other reviews say that this is a step backward in their career, but i totally disagree. this album has some of Cartel's greatest songs, and they are catchy, shouldnt songs be catchy in the first place?, thats how they become famous. this is realy a work of art and i highly encourage you to buy it. Cartel is one of my favorite bands and this album is truly exceptional. on another note, check out the band 'The Maine', my favorite band. they are amazing. I'M STILL WAITING FOR THEM TO MAKE A NEW ALBUM THOUGH!!! but buy 'Can't Stop Won't Stop' its the best album out there if you like their type of music.

saraxmc - ;D<33

alright let me tell you that i was going threw itunes to find bands that i liked to put on my ipod and i came across cartle, which blew me away i just heard them today ; i know call me crazy but i already have 6 songs that im getting! awesome job on this CD. and corona love love love ;D

annastasiamrich - love it

seriously, cartel's sound is so good that i dont think they can make a bad song. i love it.

ryan.settle - :/

I'm a big Cartel lover myself and I def expected this one to be a hit in my book like Chroma buttt I def think it got let down because they rushed to write it in that dang bubble. ANYWAYS in my opinion, the best songs on this one are This Is Who We Are and Georgia

freakingkiley - what happened?

i hate to say it, but cartel releasing this album has resulted into them washing away to nothing.

ithankuall - To See and Hear Them

I saw them last night in concert...and they were AMAZING!! Most of the set was from this album and I was sooo happy!

Adderal - Huge Step Up From Chroma

I was never a Cartel fan until I heard this album from a friend. The first track leads into "Tonight" a catchy upbeat song that hooks you in. The next few tracks are well worth it as well. "Wasted" features a very marching band like feel yet has depressing lyrics. Another great song is "Georgia". All in all I was highly impressed with Cartel with this album. It's a huge step up from Chroma yet retains their original theme.

destrilogy - Dont know why people dont like this album?

If people are expecting the same old same old. then. no this album is not it. any artist that puts out the same old stuff isnt going to get anywhere. i love this album and is probably my favorite out of the three.

Kelseyruff123 - Awesome

Awesomeness

epicNicole - Grew on me

I first heard this album the day it dropped. My friend and I are huge fans of Chroma so we were anxious to hear these songs. Initially we were so let down by this album, but over time, it has definitely grown on me. Lyrically it is right on with Cartel's previous music, there is a slight style shift that may throw some fans off.

Graham drums - not what it could have been. not what it should have been

Cartel's first cd "Chroma", absolutely blew me away. each and every song flowed from one to the other and the epic ending of The Minstrel's Prayer/Q/A was the perfect ending to an outstanding album. This was not the album they should have released. Recorded over twenty days, yes i said twenty, in a bubble it lacks the same feel as the last Cartel album. There are a handfull of good songs. The First three songs start off great with the classic powerpop intro song ranging from one minute to two minutes with the same catchy riff played throughout and a perfect lead in to the second song. By the time you get to "No Subject (Come With Me)" the song bores you. Lack of songwriting in it is the big downfall of this cd. "This Is Who We Are" is sub-par as well. "I Will Hide Myself Away/ I Will Follow" is a great song. But they should have cut it off at the end of the first songs end. The last two minutes of it are unneeded and lack good sound. "Wasted" is a great song. One of my favorites off the album. "The Fourtunate" is not thier best. But good if your not listening for quality. "Georgia" is my favorite song of the cd along with "Lose It". The last three songs lack the great songwriting that was on "Chroma" and puts a horrible end to a decent album. Buy the album if you really like the band. On a budget? Buy The First three songs I Will Hide Myself Away and Georgia

RickWall23 - Awesome! One of 2007's best albums easy.

This album is amazing from start to finish. Despite what other people say, the music is very orginal with intersting structure twists on songs like "I will hide myself away" and "If I were to right the song" and unique guitar sounds on songs like "Georgia." The songs are all sort of atmospheric (similar to Q and A on Chroma) and crazy beautiful. Will's voice is amazing as usual, and the same goes for all the instruments. It's one of those rare albums where every song flows together perfectly. Of course there are a few really good singles ("Lose It" and The Fortunate"), but you really need to buy the whole album. The reviewers who say this album is bad are either people who don't like this type of music in the first-place (no one should ever trust a review by someone who is biased against that type of music) or people who are just mad because of the bubble (if you're going to base a review on a tv show then you have no business ever reviewing anything). Easily one of the best albums ever.

Erardy7 - Amazing!

I Had this CD for years but when I bought it I was to young I guess haha I always loved Chroma but once I gave this more listens it just got better and better ! One of their best CD if not the best. It truly is a self title it shows everything they are capable of in one CD. Love all Cartel Albums!
