I like and appreciate solo, acoustic Neil. However, for me nothing beats electric, hard-rock Neil. This album and Ragged Glory 2 of the best of the nineties!

This is a great album. You get to hear more Pearl Jam along with a great great artist!! Neal Young is very Diverse in the work that he does but I think that this is his best modern rock record. It may not be his best overall record but it does show what he is capable of. If you get any track off of this check out the tribute to great artists in the song Downtown. Also if you can find it check out the companion EP "merkinball"

The first four songs on this album make an immdiate impact. Had that passion been sustained this would be a five star classic. Instead it is "just" very good. The latter part of the record feels too long, the pacing of of "Peace and Love" and "Scenery" don't justify their length like "Cowgirl in the Sand " or "Cortez the Killer" do. Maybe a song is like a film, unless you have something perfect, like "The Godfather", you've got to edit it a little. That said, $8.00 is a bargain considering the first four songs are a must have have, which would cost you $5.16 after i-tunes' outrageous 30% increase in the cost of a song.

Best one he ever made

Yes, Neil is amazing. And yes, Stone, Jeff and Mr. McCready are their usual solid selves. But, the star far and away for me on this album is Jack Irons. He plays like a man possessed. After listening to Mirror Ball is has undoubtedly clinched the title of "best Pearl Jam drummer." Matt Cameron has nothing (on his Pearl Jam resume at least) that even comes close to Jack's performance on this album. He drives every single song and makes the music MOVE.

Neil Young and Pearl Jan were made for each other. While Neil has excelled at folk, country and as a singer/songwriter, he really steps out as a grunge rocker. Rust Never Sleeps was Pearl Jam long before Pearl Jam ever existed! Rock on Neil!

this record was the soundtrack of my 1995/1996. many long days & nights were spent driving through the desert listening/rewinding/repeating "I'm The Ocean". its like a crazy horse record with a little more punch to it thanks to Jack Irons drumming. ....."i'm for rolling, i'm for tossing in my sleep / it's not guilt though, it's not the company i keep"....perfect

Crazy Horse is the absolute best band for Neil. They can be matched by only one other, Pearl Jam, unbelievable rockers in their own right. It is a shame this album is not more popular. I always loved Neil acoustic and always will, but there is a connection we both have with wanting to turn the amp to 11 and grunge it out. This is 45 minutes of some of the best electric neil that exists. By the way, if you see him live it will change your life. Again.

Great songs,great rhythm. Wish Ed was on a few more tracks. Should have released a live album after this.

I get tired of listening to acoustic Neil Young, as the Godfather of Grunge, I'd say this is definitely a album that is one of the reasons why. I'd say this and Ragged Glory are the two more recent albums that best represent an semi-recent electric Neil.
