She sound like a male country singer but good

Heard “Baby Can I Hold You” recently and was reminded how much I loved that song and this album. It the occurred to me it’s now 30 years old. It’s timeless. Meant s lot to me in college and it’s like discovering an old friend.

Absolutely loved this album at nine years old and still do at 37 years old !!!!

I have loved this album since I was a kid. Classic and can never be topped. Tracy sealed her name on the list of Blues legends with this one.

More timely and powerful than ever!

Hearing all these songs brings back memories. I remember the first time I heard "Fast Car" I couldn't stop listening to it over and over again. I was only 10 when the song was released and was too young to fully understand the meaning of all her songs, but I couldn't stop listening to it. I'm thrilled I can download the entire album from iTunes. Now if only I could get some old school Kid Rock.

I think "Fast Car" is the saddest song I've ever heard, or close to it. Sad in its power, of course: it really conveys all the tragedy of its character's life.

Tracy Chapman managed to strike a lot of chords with this seminal album. Songs full of emotion and reflection, anger, angst, desire, longing. "Talkin' Bout A Revolution" reminded me so much of Patti Smith's "Frederick" from the 1970s, how it starts off softly, then builds to a wonderful, driving beat. Kind of like making love. Still one of the best albums of the 1980s from a woman who, at the time, was unique. Kind of like Joan Armatrading in this respect, she makes her own music and no one else sounds like her.

After so many years, this has not lost its power... As a matter of fact, it’s just the opposite!

This is pure art. One of the life changing listens. ❤

I’ve loved Tracy’s songs ever since I heard them in my mom’s car. I fell in love with her music and her authenticity. I love her voice and the depth of it. Whenever I hear fast car I feel like crying. It’s a truly relatable song. I love her. 🦋🚘

This is one of the greatest singer-songwriter albums of all time. There's not a single bad song on this. Her voice is so smooth and beautiful, yet packed with so much emotion and passion. Her lyrics are real and honest; she knows how to write an incredible song. This is one of those records that moves me to the core every time I listen to it. It's a record I've grown up with, and it's shaped me in so many ways. Tracy Chapman is at her finest here (not than any of her other albums aren't spectacular), and if this album isn't already a favorite, it soon will be. This album is one of the few albums that I can and like to hear complete from song 1 to song 11

It’s amazing, I didn’t realize the racist overtones and the anti-white lyrics of this artist. It’s a shame the singer fell into the very racism she was probably trying to prevent. I came here for the “fast car” song, but I never knew these others.

One of the greatest albums of all time. A true gift when most music of the time (not that is much better now) was absolute garbage. A true classic. Thanks, Tracy!!

This albums is amazing. simple as that. Every song speaks of real issues and does not feel preachy. My favorite album on vinyl and I have listened to thousands of records. If you have a chance to listen to it on vinyl, do it! Still good on Mp3. Whole album sounds like something from the early seventies. Excellent!

I love this album, of course I remember Fast Car, but there are so many great songs on this album. Truly this is a sit down and listen beginning to end affair. There is such a soulful quality and authentic original feel to this album

Tracy Chapman's debut is a good solid record that shows you who she is. "Fast Car" and "Talkin' bout a revolution" are the best known, but "Why?" is a really great song. She also shows that she can give good ballads with "Baby Can I Hold You?" and "For You".

Walking to work fast car popped into my head. And in that ten minute walk I remembered being in high school. Liking almost every genre of music except folk music. And at that moment, adding what is essentially the folk music of my generation, to that list. (Ok, James Taylor was the exception, but not enough till that point to make me add folk music to my list)!

Her one of a kind voice and soulful singing makes her an icon.

Tracy Chapman is a true story teller. I've followed her work from the release of this album.. Amazing artist

I first heard this album when I was 10 yrs old (in 1988). I remember it stirring something inside of me and my having to stop and listen to this beautiful somewhat haunting voice. Some 24 yrs later I still have the same reaction anytime I put this CD on or hear one of these songs. She is a rare talent and masterful songwriter/storyteller. She should be ranked as one of THE voices of the 20th century and beyond. She is timeless!
