Okay, forget that rap-crap that tries to say its rock. it aint. This is what Rock sound like. Heart has hit it outta the park. Just buy it and let your ears rejoice. Once you hear true rock you'll neva go back to anything else. Im a Fanatic.
How can this album be the best Rock Album that I have Heard this year!!!! Rock Musicians take notes on this one!!! These Ladies know how to get it done!!! All of the songs are worthwhile No Filler!!!! Look for the version with 3 extra bonus songs, they are excellent as well. Only on a real CD not Digitally available
Bravo to Heart for ditching the cold digital aluminum crap sound of their 80's albums and returning to the warm, organic analog vibe of their early records. This is simply a great Heart record, and a great record period. The Wilson sisters show us what it means to get school back in session and show everyone how it's done. I was in a late 70's cover band that played the same Great Falls, Montana bar where Heart had played just the week before. They were an act that was impossible to follow and I'd say they still are today. This is definitely not an album of sub-par throwaway stuff from a has-been act that should have hung it up years ago. This is truly "classic" rock in the very best sense of the word. Ann and Nancy sound like they're still 19 years old and that is a GOOD thing. Buy it. And if you're a musician, go join a Heart cover band or start one.
Rock ON babes!!! This album takes me back to Seattle, the 70's and the Aquarius Tavern!
My gosh...the heart of Heart! This is one of THE best HEART recordings ever!
If you were to ask me why I've been a Heart fanatic since 1976, I'd simply hand you this cd - it says it all.
The girls come very strong favorite is skin & bones
I LOVE this album. I feel that they went back to their roots. Every song is a masterpiece. Mashallah Rocks on this album!
OH!!!!!!!!!!! how I have missed the true passion of rock that comes from the Wilson sisters. Together in their true essence is just perfection. Welcome back old friends with such new and exciting music. Put it on...turn it up...and rock on
This is the Heart I remember From the 70's. You can't miss with this One. Just get it sit back and rock out!
Just Buy... Its AWESOME. Rock On Heart..
This album takes me back to the Heart I heard from the beginning. Every track a jewel. It is a must have for your collection.
I've always been a fan of Heart. I was first turned on to their music in the 1980s, during their highly successful "commercial phase," and I never really understood or knew they didn't enjoy that time period until the mid-1990s. I went back and gave their '70's material a listen, and while I'll always be a fan of the commercialized Heart music (I grew up o it), I realized their 70's stuff was more of who they were. 'Fanatic' is amazing. The title track, which was the debut single and has been out for a while, is heavy rock all the way. Much of 'Fanatic' is hard rock. "Dear Old America," "Mashallah," "5 Million Miles," and "59 Crunch" really rock. "Pennsylvania" and "Skin and Bones" aren't super heavy rock but have a soulful funk about them. "Walkin' Good," which features Sarah McLachlan on harmonies and "Corduroy Road" are pretty awesome slower tracks. As an album, 'Fanatic' has more in common with 2004's 'Jupiter's Darling' than 2010's 'Red Velvet Car.' If you love 'Fanatic' but haven't heard those two albums I recommend you pick them up. The only thing that disappoints me about the iTunes release is there are no bonus tracks. Apparently the bonus tracks went to Best Buy?
This is Heart's 14th album, and it is mind blowing to me that they still sound as great as they did on their 1st album. These two women have something special and they have never failed to impress me! "59 Crunch" is one of my favorite songs on this album, check it out if you haven't.
Heart will always remain authentic to their music! Ann Wilson is the greatest voice music has ever known! Nancy is one the all-time greatest guitar players!
I have to admit I was a little disappointed with Red Velvet Car, especially after the "phenomenal" Jupiter's Darling, which for some reason seemed to go under the radar. Fanatic brings them back to what they do best. Brilliant! About fricken time they got nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!!! Shameful it took this long.
❤️
this album is great , i think its there best in a long time although i appreciate heart as the amazing artists they are and its hard for me not to like them, they are amazing song writers and Anns voice is incredible, but its always great to connect to an album and I really love this Album a lot. dear old America, walking good and 59 crunch are my favorites along with pennsylvania , and i usally prefer hearts rockier stuff, but i really love the ballads on this as well. the music is catchy without being too commercial , i love and album thats raw and true but at the same time has good hooks that grab your attention i also love there knod to zeppelin in fanatic , and the feel of this album seems so true to themselves. do not hesitate to get this album good good good stuff.
If you live rock, you will love this from start to finish. Wow!
Her guitar skills are certainly as good or better than ever. Innovative and pristine. Go Nancy.
This is a nice album. Overall average score: 4.5/5 (A-)! The only thing is that part of it sounds like hard hard rock.
This is quite possibly my favorite Heart album since their 70 and 80's heyday; it rocks much harder than "Red Velvet Car" and is not as schizophrenic as "Jupiter's Darling". "Skin and Bones" immediately grabbed me- what an excellent vibe! Also notable is the Nancy Wilson/Sarah McLaughlin led "Walkin' Good", sounding as folk-alternative as anything to come out of Brooklyn. The overall rock vibe is definitely crunchy and even slow songs such as "Pennsylvania" have a lot of depth through the use of strings. One minor complaint might be the lack of lead guitar runs but that has not really been a strong feature in Heart's music since the departure of Roger Fisher and Howard Leese (and that was a long time ago!). One special caveat- IF you are a major fan (and even if not): consider purchasing the Best Buy CD version as it includes three more songs, 2 of which are excellent. That's my special tip of the day.
Everyone involved with the production of this album deserves an award. Real rock is not dead yet!
Heart. Soul Rocking It
Excellent track by track beginning to end. This album is a very good example of their great musical style and virtuosity. Tracks range from the hardest rockers to folksy numbers all the way to sweet ballad love songs. Definitely a must have for any Heart fan!!
This kind of reminds me of a Lovemongers album. Soulful.
For their 14th album (Nearly 40 years of rock!!) the Wilson sisters release a rockin album with some great material! This one has a little bit of something for everyone! Want the harder rocking songs? Check out the title track, "Mashallah" and "59 Crunch"! The song "Walking Good" is the album's best folksy number, always a strength for the band, and benefits from the voice of Sarah McLachlan, who blends so perfectly with the Wilsons that one might think she was their long lost sister! "Skin and Bones" is a blues-funk driven, rock number that sounds like it could have come from the albums "Little Queen" or "Dog and Butterfly". It is a joy to listen to and a song that begs for a replay after it is finished! The song "Million Miles" is a contemporary rocker and juxtaposes the group with the new decade of music. All in all, this is an EXCELLENT album and a return to the Heart that has rocked America for years! Check it out!
The ladies still sound pretty good with a legit rockin sound.
A perfectly blended Heart.
Been with Ann and Nancy since day one. Hold on folks, this ride has a ways to go!!!!!!
Skin and Bones Rock !! - Just what the Music World Needs
they can't recreate the magic
After being a long time Heart fan, I figure that they were poised for retirement ! I loved their last release, "Red Velvet Car" CD and figured they were done ! Was I wrong ! This CD "Fanatic" is yet another side to these talented ladies who happen to be sisters too ! A Rock CD with rawness, but freshness, a sight for sore eyes in the current abyss of rock music that's trying to re-define the genre! All the bands out there need to take notes from these Ladies !
Awesome sound. It looks like Heart has gone back to their roots!! I saw them in concert in Louisville, Ky last year and I can't wait for their return. They are the ONLY band that I go to see this day and age. If anyone gets the chance to see them go...you won't regret this one. Keep rockin ladies!!
Fanatic is the strongest, the rest is unbearable. Writing successful, wonderful songs really does end for everybody at some time. No matter how big the “Rock God,” it always ends badly. Heart can only tour singing mostly greatest hits with fans having to endure the “new stuff.” Their current work will never, ever be as good as their old stuff. This album will quickly tank off the charts, just like Red Velvet Car did.
I DO ENJOY THIS CD-----LOTS OF VARIETY. BUT I WOULD REALLY LOVE TO SEE YOU LADIES GET BACK TO YOUR DIRTY ROOTS OF SINGING ABOUT THE TORMENT OF US WOMEN & OUR DEALINGS WITH LOVE (MEN, MEN, MEN)!!!! I KNOW YOU TWO MUST HAVE MORE STORIES TO TELL, IF NOT, GATHER YOUR FRIENDS AS i AM SURE THEY WILL FILL THE PAGES FOR YOU TO SING ALOUD!!! LOVE YOU SOOOO MUCH! YOUR FAN...ANGELEYES
Yeah baby! Finally some hard rock material for this long time fan.
They still sound great!
I am a big Heart fan- I discovered their 70's and 80's stuff simultaneously and have also enjoyed their 2000's releases, particularly Jupiter's Darling. I really enjoyed the more hard rock songs on Fanatic, my favorites being "Mashalla" and "59 Crunch." Others, like "Dear Old America" and "Rock Deep (Vancouver)," have grown on me. I wouldn't say this album grabbed me in the way that Jupiter's Darling did but rather drew me in slowly like their last release Red Velvet Car. I would say that this album sounds closer to their 70's music than the power ballads and rock of their 80's music. I like that they added musical touches that made the music sound fresh while still familiar. Ann's voice is rocking on this album and Nancy does a great job with the guitar as always. Can't wait for more Heart! This band always sounds so passionate, no matter what the decade.
What the hell? They are back and sounds just as good as they did back through the years . Nice job ladies.! ;-)
The sisters are back for real! This album rocks!!!!
Is this the original Heart group? Sure sounds like them, albeit a few decades older. I still remember seeing them in a small seedy bar in Portland, OR in the 70's before their first LP came out, and my wife and I agreed that it was too bad they didn't have an LP for us to buy (this was LONG before CDs and custom LPs weren't a reality for any wannabe group)
One by one I've seen (and unfortunately heard) far too many great bands from the 70's rehashing their age-old hits that none of us need to hear worn-out, uninspired people perform. THANK YOU, Ann and Nancy Wilson, for demanding more from your creative souls…FANATIC is absolutely phenomenal because these ageless rockers have taken their amazing groove and ROCK it like they never have before. Every single track is completely worthwhile, but strongest on the set for me include 'Fanatic', 'Dear Old America' (Ann is at her best when angry), '5 Million Miles' and 'Corduroy Road'. This is the best, most consistently intense Heart of the decade - and I believe that even after close to forty years and fourteen albums, the Wilson's are at the very peak of their game!!! Straight On.
Heart made the journey from crunchy girrrrl rock of the seventies to the power ballad eighties to the acoustic rock of the nineties to an almost country sound on Red Velvet Car to this album, a return to crunch and powerful vocals we've come to associate with Heart. The opener "Fanatic" is balls to the wall and this album doesn't let up until "Rock Deep (Vancouver)" and even Sarah McLaclan who I never much cared for rocks out a little and actually fits in well. Nancy Wilson's guitar is as sharp as ever as is her voice, thinner than Ann's, sounds better; she's improved with age. This album is the second release since their return to Sony, their label in the seventies during their halcyon days and that in it of itself may be the inspiration to their welcome return to their roots. We missed you ladies!
Love them! The Wilson sisters just keep getting better.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heart @ their very best!! no small feat after 40 yrs
Oh, how I hate to use tired cliches, but in this case, nothing more accurate applies. "Like fine wine........." You know the rest. Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart have given a whole new meaning to the phrase "born again," and Fanatic marks their second consecutive release in which the sisters have managed to shame a younger generation of hard rockers in a continuing reinvention of themselves. Not only is Fanatic undeniably good, it destroys the notion that hard rockers don't age gracefully. The duo is incredibly talented, and the combination of Nancy's signature guitar and Ann's unmistakable vocals is immediately familiar and second to none. It takes less than one full listen to immediately love this album. Nancy still shreds. Ann has not lost even a fraction of her dynamic vocal range. What other recording artists debuting in the mid-1970s can make a similar claim? Maybe Bruce Springsteen, but his career has traversed too many paths since Born To Run to compare. You always know what you are going to get from Ann and Nancy, and despite that, they continue to outdo themselves and exceed expectations with each release. The band is, and remains, hard rock's beau monde. What I truly love about this album is the passion that bursts from the finished product. The production, led by Ben Mink, is first rate, but the essence of this album boils down to three simple components: talent, fervor and the desire to release an album that not only satisfies us as listeners, but the band and production team as well. In an era when so many legacy artists are simply phoning it in, Ann and Nancy are not only offering something relevant, but something that is nearly vital to their brand, fans and the genre as well. --- Michael Canter - Jivewired
